Good day,
Yes, the new high efficiency units tend to run a lot compared to older models. That in fact is not a bad thing, since the compressor has to cycle on and off fewer times per day, and starting and stopping are what create wear and tear on refrigeration equipment. Actually you pay less because of the much smaller compressor that uses less power.

However, keep an eye on it. If it gets continually worse going forward, call for service. Hopefully Frigidaire has solved it's problems but was known to develop internal restrictions in the refrigeration system causing that problem to the point it runs continuously and fails to cool properly.
If the machine is under 5 years of age it would be corrected free of charge.

Is a Kelvinator upright considered energy efficient?

freezer --no
every time you open the freezer door , the cold air is dropped to the floor so the unit has to work hard to bring the temp back down same as any up right freezer

How much electricity do I need to keep my Woods chest freezer running during an extended power failure?

The amount of Energy is determined by the Efficiency of the Fridge, the Generator Output and the Size of the Fridge. Then you have to take into consideration the amount of food inside because it is what keeps the food cold. An Empty Fridge has nothing to retain the coldness

Freezer seems to run all the time.

Good Morning Linda, this is Z. I appreciate your post!

I understand your Frigidaire freezer seems to continuously running. Unlike older freezer that turned off and on frequently, newer models save energy from having to start up and shut off repeatedly. For example, diesel-powered trucks conserve fuel and energy and therefore have less engine wear and tear by keeping the motor running; much like newer energy efficient refrigerators/freezer. If the compressor is running on a more constant basis; it is maintaining the temperature within your freezer, rather than having to cut off and start again to adjust the temperature.

I hope this information explains why your freezer runs more often. However, should you feel that a service technician is needed; you may visit the manufacturer website to find a provider in your area that will look at your freezer.

Best regards!

Was offered a new energy efficient freezer 16.7 cu foot standing frost free by Fridgidaire ( energy efficiency rating 65). My 13 yr old Kenmore: Model : 253.9287215 Freezer works fine. Is it rated the...

I was not able to find any info quickly on your older Kenmore in my literature but its a sure bet that it was not as efficient as the new one. You can do a calculation or look at the plate (usually on the back) that states the amperage draw on each model- the higher one is the less efficient. As for cuft you need to do the math and measure the inside storage area in inches wide, inches deep and inches tall. Multiply the width X depth X height then divide by 144 (the cu inches in a cubic ft) this will give you the actual size of the Kenmore for comparison. Hope this helps... also you may want to check with your local electric utility company as many are offering a rebate to replace 10 yr old fridge. freezers and usually pick up for free.

Energy saver keeps going off and on with beeping sound. Everything else seems to be working OK.

Check your manual but you settings could be to cold for it to run in energy saver mode so it keeps catching up then slacking off.

HAD A TECH. COME OUT AND CHANGE THE FRONT DIGITAL CONTROL PANEL AND THE DOOR SWITCH AND THE FREEZER STILL RUNS APPROX. 20 OF EVERY 24 HOURS EACH DAY

these units are designed to run approx 85 percent of the time, they maintain temp rather than letting it get to a higher temp and then try to cool it down.they use a lot less energy to run the way they do long running times are normal

Freezer - top shelf frosted over -- poor cooling through rest of freezer

Hi yadak,
Happy to help.

You may need a new door seal.
But they are not easy to put on properly
and I would not recommend spending a lot of money on a ten year old freezer!
the new ones are much more energy efficient and will save you a lot of money!
