We purchased a Whirlpool portable air conditioner in 2005 from Best Buy. Near the end of last summer the air conditioner started leaking water. We started using it again this season and it is still leaking. When my husband drained the water out of it, the water came out of the upper part of the back side of the air conditioner and no water was coming out of the drain at the bottom. When it appeared to be empty, we plugged it in and used it again and it continued to leak water on our carpet. Do you have some reasons why it would leak and can you offer suggestions to fix this problem?

Check to see if the drain is blocked by particles/debris of any type. Also make sure that the unit is level--as level as possible. I have my Whirlpool Portable AC in 4 inch bed risers so I can drain it really easily. I slip under a small low rise pan and drain it every two days or so when it is running. Mine leaked when I tried to incline it backwards to make it drain faster. As soon as I leveled the unit the leak stopped and water again came out the hose. These units must be kept level to prevent leaks so now I always do that.

I just purchased a used wintair room portable a/c unit, works good its 8000btu, it cools great, but i dont know how to work the buttons, and it has started leaking on my daughters carpet, do i need to...

There should be a plug on the rear of the unit near the bottom of the back. If the plug is missing/removed, it should have a barbed or threaded end for a drain hose to be installed. Place the drain hose (a typical garden hose will suffice) over the end of the barbed/threaded section and secure with a an automotive hose clamp. Some units did come with a "male" hose end in which the "female" end (what you would screw onto a outdoor faucet) garden hose can be directly threaded onto the drain connection. In either case, this drain needs to be leak proof to prevent additional water (condensate) from leaking onto the floor. The drain is ideal for situations where there is high humidity in which the A/C condenses the water vapor out of the air during A/C operation.

The water is being removed from the air, you need to empty the water out of the unit as needed, sometimes as often as every two hours, the beeping is a water tank full alarm telling you to empty the tank as per instructions, there is a drain plug on the bottom of the unit you may want to move the unit to a drain until you know the amount of water the tank holds so you know how big of a containor to use

Although I know it is not recommended, I have no choice but to plug my AC into a surge protected power bar/extension. I have done so for the last 2 summers, no problem. I take out my AC to install, last...

The best thing I can tell you is, that Danby does not recommend it. Even an extension cord is not recommended, unless it is a 14 gauge and no longer that 6 feet.

Several questioners in the past, have used a surge protect power bars and ended up frying the electronics of their AC units.

But, in the end, it's up to you.

Looking for answers concerning my portable ac

Contact sharp for the replacement remote. As for the water the drain should discharge to a pan through a tube or a cap covers the drain hole. When it gets full it leaks out onto the floor. Also when it ices inside through prolonged use and can leak out through the edges to the bottom.

I used my portable mastercool about 4 times last summer. Now, neither motor will turn on. It is getting power and I checked to make sure all the connections were good. I could not find a trip on the...

If not cleaned out properly at the end of the season rust and scale can make both motors quit. Try unplugging the unit and spinning the blower wheel by hand several time. Then try turning the shaft on the water pump by hand; that may free it up.

If you can get the blower working again you're in business as it's the most expensive part in the unit. Replacement water pumps are $10-$15.
