The fabric doesn't move forward.

My machine was working fine.... Suddenly, while sewing the cloth stopped moving ahead. I checked the threading, the bobbin etc. I guess, the metal zig-zag teeth (which are just below the needle) are not pushing the cloth. Now when I start the machine, the needle keeps going up and down on the same spot on the cloth. I don't know what could go wrong....just few minutes back the machine was fine.

Thankyou Sewman7 for trying to help. I did the above mentioned things. The teeth move back and forth but "don't seem to rise above the plate".

We need to do some examining. Remove the foot. Put the stitch length dial at the longest stitch. Turn the wheel and see if the feed dogs move about 1/4 inch. Also check to see that they rise just slightly above the needle plate. If it does these two things it will work. If the teeth don't rise above the plate, remove the needle plate and clean the lint out from between the rows of teeth. If you find a lot of tightly packed lint there this will solve your problem. Reinstall the needle plate and foot. If the feed dogs don't move about 1/4 inch, you probably have a problem which is going to require the services of a technician.

Look for the lever or knob which raise and lowers your feed dogs. Some machines don't have them, but look anyway. It will probably be near the feed dogs on the lower part of the machine, in front or in back. It may even be inside the cover where the bobbin case goes. There will only be 2 positions you can move it to.If you can't find it then I'm afraid it will need to be seen by a technician.

My Elna 6000: the needle does not want to move forward or backwards

The needle never moves forward/back on its own for most sewing machines. The needle bar goes up and down. The fabric moves due to the action of the feed dogs. First remove the fabric from under the presser foot. Check for tangled thread wrapped around the feed dogs or fabric/thread going down into the bobbin area in a tangle. Next check if the feed dogs are up. (When the feed dogs are down or covered (on some machines), the machine is in darning mode. The fabric will only move if you move it yourself.) With the fabric out of the way, rotate the hand wheel and check if the feed dogs are moving. Open up the bobbin compartment and clean out any lint, thread or other debris that may be tangling the mechanism. Take off the throat plate and check the feed dogs. A damaged throat plate can stop the feed dogs from moving properly. You may need to replace the throat plate.

For some machines, you may need to make sure that the unit is not in bobbin wind mode. This is usually obvious since the needle bar won't move either.

I hope this helps.

ELNA 1000 not moving fabric through.

Have you got a tangle under your fabric? If so, release the fabric and rethread your machine, making sure the foot is up during threading. Otherwise check the feed dog under the foot. There's usually a switch somewhere that brings the feed dog up or down. If it's down the fabric won't feed. Another point, what type of fabric are you sewing. If it's leather or leatherette you'll need to use a roller foot. Hope this helps.

I have a Bernina Activa 130. I tried to sew over some leather, started fine, then the needle got stuck and I stopped right away. Now, the bottom threads keeps bunching. I have re-threaded the machine, new...

You need a fatter needle. The skinny needle will not open the leather enough for a smooth flow of thread and that's why the bobbin is bunching up when the top thread is sticking. Make it easier on your machine by using an appropriate size needle while sewing leather.

The machine won't stitch anything...

check the feed dogs in the needle plate area to see if there up,
if you can see them & touch them with your finger, I'm putting in a link
for a free manual, so you can see where the lever is to the feed dogs, just
incase they are not up. if they are up then they may need to be checked
to see why they aren't moving the fabric.

Fabric won't feed forward

Do the feed dogs move up and down? If they dont the plastic gear underenth has probably broken you can take this to a singer dealer and have them replace the plastic gear with a nylon one which would last longer than that did

Machine stopped sewing

The thread is caught in the hook...Remove the upper thread and bobbin case, turn the hand wheel backwards and forwards by hand and remove the thread remands. Good Luck

The fabric doesn't move forward.

Hi,

What is the length set at?

Are the feed dogs visible at the needle plate?

What does the design look like in the pattern box?

Have you tried it on the straight stitch to see if is effected also?
