Kenmore Front Loading Washer - the spider arm broke and we had to change the entire tub assy which was done and the machine now works perfectly as for the washing and tumbling. The tub spins, tumbles back and forth, drains, no unusual noises however it will not do the high speed spin at the end which gets most of the water out. Any idea of what is wrong?

It is the brain of the washer that decides when the spin takes place and how fast - the brain knows how fast the motor is spinning because there is a speed sensor, probably on the rear end of the motor shaft.

There might be bad connections to the speed sensor or it might be broken but if that and the wiring is ok the fault is probably with the controller/brain, though it is possible the brain refuses to do a high speed spin because for some reason it might (mistakenly?) think there is still too much water in the tub.

SOURCE: kenmore front load tumble action washer

Snaggs, If your model number begins with 417 it could be a couple of issues. Start with the drain pump. Remove the bottom panel and see if the pump is clogged with coins or debris. It will be on the right. Check the pump impeller. Have a bunch of towells handy as you will have a lot of water coming out at you. When you drop the bottom panel you will be able to see if the belt is on in back. If this does not clear up the problem, more than likley it will be in the motor control board. Catriver...post back.

SOURCE: Squeaking noise from Dryer when tumbling

IT IS USUALLY THE "BELT TENSION ADJUSTABLE PULLEY". MOST ARE CHEAPLY MADE ... TRY A BIT OF AXLE GREESE ON IT ... IT IS SEALED FROM THE INNER DRUM AND IS MOUNTED USUALLY ON THE BOTTOM FRAME RAILING.

SOURCE: Kenmore front-load washer stops at rinse cycle

When the washer initially fills for the wash, is it only hot water entering the drum? Try switching the water temperature between hot and cold as it fills. If any of them show little or no water getting through, it sounds too easy but check to make sure water supply taps are on, and that the cold/hot fill hoses aren't reversed. Remove the fill hoses and check any of the screen filters for blockage (in the hoses and in the inlet water valve). When the machine stops and waits to fill but all you hear is a hum, it sounds like there is power going to the valve but water is not able to get through it.
Good luck!

Replace spider arm

Replacing the spider arm on this machine is one of the most difficult jobs. Just buying the part is extremely expensive because the arm and stainless tub are sold as one. When I tore down my machine to find out what was wrong I wound up salvaging parts and replacing the machine.

HOW TO REPLACE SPIDER ARMS ON KENMORE 970-C42062-00

if the spider gear is gone and it's very loud in the spin cycle buy a new washer, you have to take the whole washer apart, and then take separate the tub, with all the time and money it would be better to replace the washer,if you look inside at the back of the tub, you'll see like a peace sign, that's where the spider gear is.

Washer say on screen LE and will not turn.. Also when manually turn the turn hear grinding noise too.

Grinding noises are bad. If you are lucky, you got an item (like an underwire support from a bra) between the inner and outer tub, which may be removed through the heater or drain openings in the tub. If you are un-lucky, your rear tub seal failed, causing the rear bearing to fail, or the shaft broke loose from the 3 arms of the spider which drives the inner wash tub. Either of those things is $$$ and a lot of work to repair, involving removal of the outer drum, seperation of the outer drum halves, and repair. (translation: minimum 2 hours labor if you've ever done one before)

My front load washer's tub has dropped down on to the bottom of the washer

If you are talking about the entire assy. basket and outer tub your support springs have broken, they hold the weight of the tub and basket. For the entire assy. to be laying in the bottom it also had to have the shock absorbers come loose or break..Now if you are saying that the basket is loose inside the outer tub that's much worse than a broken tub support and most likely a rear tub half with bearing assy. You can easily remove the 3 screws on the back of the TOP slide toward the rear and look inside their should be 2 large springs 1 on the left and 1 on the right

Front load washer loud noise and drum loose but not dropped

Spider arms attached to stainless steel drum inside of tub have probably broken. This is a known problem with Frigidaire front loading washing machines. The stainless steel drum has a 25 year warranty but this does not include the spider arms. You cannot buy the spider arms separately, you have to buy the unit as one. The drum cost about $250.00 and probably about $300.00 in labor to install. You can do it yourself but it is pretty involved. Good Luck!

Drum Tilt

Your spin basket spider arm support on the back of the spin basket is broken. The spider arms support the entire weight of the basket and insert into the tub bearing in the back of the washer. You will need to replace the spin basket (stainless steel tub) in order to fix this problem. The tub is not repairable and cannot be welded, either (I have been asked this question before). I would not recommend you use the washer any longer as it will cause further damage to the outer tub shells. If you have a repairman perform this job, it can be quite expensive (around $300, $400, perhaps higher), because of the labor involved. Some smaller appliance repair companies won't touch a job like this. However, the washer is repairable, and you can perform this yourself. If you wish to accomplish this on your own, I can give you step-by-step instructions and where to order a new tub. Let me know if you want my assistance.

Black stains on Laundry from a front load washer.

bob, if your model starts with 417. this is a mother of all jobs. The black marks are coming from the rear bearing assy. in the tub. I just changed one out and it is misery. I don't believe the boot is causing the black marks. When I tore this one apart I found the tub, tub to drain pump hose, pump itself, contaminated with this black crap. Replaced them all. The tub and bearing comes as one piece and it is no fun to put in. The whole washer has to come apart to do this job and it requires two men to do it. The boot (bellow)itself is a pain to install. You might want to check with Sears and see if this is covered under the 5 year warrany on the bearing and tub, parts only, if not, it's not worth the time or money..Catriver..post back.

Kenmore spin cycle thumping noises

I just went through the same issue with my Kenmore front loading washing machine. I assumed (and a Sears repairman also told me) that it is the bearings. After I took the drum assembly out, I saw the rear drum broken and the inner tub hitting the outer tub. I ordered the outer drum assembly and only when I took the inner drum assembly out I realized the the "Spider" attached to the inner drum (and spindle) was broken. Entire drum assembly cost $417 + shipping and it may be cheaper in the long run to buy a new washer. I like the front loaders because they save water and good for the environment, but the US manufacturers have not yet perfected the technology like European manufacturers (or they don't want the machines to last too long just like cars). Anyway, I am looking into welding the spider tomorrow. If not will return the outer tub assembly and buy a top loading washer for $300!
