Look at Optical Engine Faults before buying a lamp or bulb. Replacement bulb will not repair these problems.

You will have to replace the lamp which goes every 3-4 yrs depending how often used (Sony XL-2400 DLP replacement lamp).Your instruction booklet will explain this page 76. As further info I would also make sure the lamp comes with the cover which Amazon has it for a total price of around $130.

Cause of darker picture is lamp that has reached at end of its working life span and need to be replaced for brighter picture in tv.
Replace lamp in tv to get problem solved.

For dark picture I need to ask one question, How long ago you replaced its lamp? one year, two years?

Picture brightness is depends on lamp in LCD rear projection (DLP) TVs and if lamp got weak in generating light, you will see dark picture.

I would recommend to replace lamp and buy Sony original lamp from Sony Accessories Store.

3 time blink shows that Lamp Cover is not fixed properly. Please check Lamp Cover and make sure its fixed securely.

no you should only replace a bulb with the one made for that brande t.v. you should put in a sony xl-2400 in your sony t.v. and yes you should get both housing and bulb in 1 i bought mine off ebay for about 116.00$ both lamp and housing very easy to replace good luck also if you have a sony kdf-42we655 or 50we655the lamp part # is xl-21oou or xl-2100
