Outlook Express 6

I've opened Outlook Express and have several emails waiting to be opened. I can't open them because it says: "Message has not been downloaded. Outlook has not yet downloaded this message. To download the message 'click here' 'click SPACE'. I tried this but it doesn't work. I have received subsequent emails and have managed to open them.

Thanks

PS My D drive says it's almost full and I have tons of space on my C Drive - how do I make more space on D Drive or transfer stuff to C Drive? thanks

Sounds like Outlook Express is set to read the headings only. If you click on it it should open. Unless your drive is full.

You can install Windows Live Mail and it will upgrade your e-mail in Outlook Express to the new program. The download is free and available at Microsoft.com.

As far as the D drive goes, you should change some of your program settings to put files on the C drive. If you loaded up programs on your D drive, unistall them and load them to you C drive.

There might be some folders you can copy from the D to C drive but if it is a program, it will no longer work properly. Use your best judgement when dragging and dropping them from one drive to the other.

Hi All, Can anyone please tell me how to stop Outlook Express from popping up wanting to free up disk space by compressing it EVEN when its not installed. I've had it on numerous computers and it

When messages are deleted in Outlook Express, they are not actually removed from the database containing your email data. Rather, the messages are marked to let Outlook Express know that they can be removed the next time the database is compacted. Compacting the message store is necessary for Outlook Express to maintain a reasonable database and avoid file corruption. Because it is necessary, Outlook Express offers to compact your message store every 100 times the program is used. If you do not compact your message store, the message will continue appearing. Compact the Outlook Express message store manually to remove the message asking if you would like your message store compacted automatically.
Compact the Outlook Express Message Store Manually Launch Outlook Express. Click "File," then click "Work Offline." This disconnects Outlook Express from the Internet temporarily, ensuring that the message store is not in use while you are compacting the database. Note: If you do not want to compact the Outlook Express message store at all, see Section 2. Click "Tools" and then "Options." Click the "Maintenance" tab. Click the "Clean Up Now" button. Click the "Compact" button. This process may take some time depending on when the message store was last compacted. Click "Close" or "OK" to close each window. The offer to compact the Outlook Express message store automatically will no longer be displayed. Click "File" and "Work Offline" to reconnect Outlook Express to the Internet. Compact the message store periodically to prevent the message from being displayed again. Remove the Offer to Compact the Message Store Without Compacting section 2 Press the Windows logo and "R" keys to display the "Run" dialog box. Type "regedit" without quotation marks into the box and press "Enter." This opens the Windows registry editor. Click the plus icons on the left side of the folder tree to navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER," "Identities," "(long string of letters and numbers)," "Software," "Microsoft" and "Outlook Express" folders. Click the "5.0" folder under the "Outlook Express" folder. Find the value named "Compact Check Count" on the right side of the window and double click it. Change the number displayed under "Value data" to "0" and click "OK." Close the registry editor. Outlook Express will not offer to compact your message store again until it has been launched another 100 times. Hope this helps

I can't open the Address Book of Outlook Express 6 and i can't sent email

First you have to make sure that the letters do have a basis, that is to view the contents of the file "Sent Items (1) .dbx" and "Sent Items (1) .bak". This lead to the many programs, such as, Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Express, http://www.outlookexpress.recoverytoolbox.com/ but it is possible and Total Commander plugins.
Next to act on the results.
Come to this forum, here is written in more detail about your problem: http://www.filerepairforum.com/forum/microsoft/microsoft-aa/outlook-express/395-something-wrong-with-outlook-express-how-to-fix-it

How to set new e-mail address for my outlook express default

Setting up new email accounts in Outlook Express - 10 Steps Without further ado, let us look at the steps which we need to follow for setting up an email account in Outlook Express.
Note: When you open Outlook Express for the first time, you might be asked if you want to set it as a default email client on your system. Make sure you answer in the affirmative.
  1. Start Outlook Express. Click on Tools in the menu bar and then go to Accounts
    outlook_express_new_account_setup1.gif
  2. This brings up the Internet Accounts pop-up window. Click on the Mail tab, to bring it to the front if it is not already so. If you are starting Outlook Express for the first time, there would not be any email accounts listed on this window.
    outlook_express_new_account_setup2.gif
  3. To add a new mail account, click on the Add button and then on Mail as shown in the image below.
    outlook_express_new_account_setup3.gif
  4. This brings up the Internet Connection Wizard pop-up window. Enter your name in the Display Name field and click on the Next button.
    outlook_express_new_account_setup4.gif
  5. The wizard now asks for your email address. Enter the full email address and click on the Next button.
    outlook_express_new_account_setup5.gif
  6. In the next window, you need to feed in three important bits of information - the incoming and outgoing email servers and the type of the incoming email server.
It is likely that the incoming email server is POP3. The incoming and outgoing email servers can be yourdomain.com, mail.yourdomain.com or any other value depending on how the email server has been configured.
If you are a beginner, you might not know what the incoming and outgoing servers mean. It is not important at this stage to know the meaning; you simply need to know their values. Call up your I.S.P. and ask them to provide the information.
I know that the email accounts at my domain www.BiotechDesk.com are all POP3. Additionally, the incoming and outgoing email servers are the same - biotechdesk.com.
    outlook_express_new_account_setup6.gif
  7. The last information that you need to enter to complete the setup of the new account is the username and password for that email account. These login details would have been given to you by your ISP or you would have set these online using a control panel.
After completing the fields for Account Name and Password, click on the Next button.
    outlook_express_new_account_setup7.gif
  8. In the following window, click on the Finish button to complete the process of setting up a new email account in Outlook Express.
    outlook_express_new_account_setup8.gif
  9. You will now see the new email account has been added to the Accounts list. The account is referred by its server name.
    outlook_express_new_account_setup9.gif
  10. To compose a new email click on the Create Mail button or click on Messages - New Message. This opens a blank email for you. Enter the senders email address, subject and the matter.
When you have composed your email, click on the File - Send Message. The email will be sent and a copy stored in the Sent Items folder.
You can create several email accounts in Outlook Express. So if you have 6 email accounts on your web site, you can set up all these.
As I mentioned in point #9 (above), Outlook Express will refer to an email account by its server name. So if you have several email accounts on your domain, they would be referred to as yourdomain.com(1), yourdomain.com(2) etc. (or something similar). To make this more user friendly, Outlook Express gives you the option of changing these values.
Open the Internet Accounts pop-up once again by clicking on Tools and then Accounts. Make sure the Mail tab is in the front. Double-click on the account name. This brings up the Properties window of that account. Enter any descriptive name in the first field, as shown in the image below.

I have an EMail with 16 photos attached - it will not "go" nor can I delete it. How can I get rid of it?

Disconnect the network-cable from your computer, to block Internet access.

Start Outlook Express.
Instead of selecting the "Inbox" mail-folder,
select the "Outbox" folder.
Click once to select the E-mail message.
Use your mouse to "drag-and-drop" the message to your "Inbox" folder.
Close Outlook Express.
Reconnect the network-cable.
Open Outlook Express.
Check your "Inbox" for that "undeliverable" message.
Open the message, or delete the message.

How to disable Outlook Express 6 Compact message prompt

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to disable this. The best you can do is delay the messages, or avoid them altogether. I have listed both methods below, and would suggest number 1 over number 2:

Method #1 - In Outlook Express, click on Tools>>Options>>Maintenance. Click on the Cleanup Now button, and then Compact. Doing this regularly will keep you from getting the messages.

Method #2 -
  • Open the registry (click on Start, Run, type Regedit and click Enter).
  • Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USERIdentitiesyour identitySoftwareMicrosoftOutlook Express.0.
  • Look for the registry value titled Compact Check Count. This typically has a value of between 1 and 5, which means Outlook Express will check every 1 to 5 times to see whether you need to compact. Double click on the item, and set the number to 100, so you will only see the message every 100 times you open Outlook Express.
- I offer remote control assistance as well! Please send me a note at [email protected]
