Every time I connect my ag-dvx100b to my mac pro with dual intel processor via firewire it "removes" my scratch disc, even if I boot up with them already connected. I cannot connect the camera at all and therefore can't capture footage.

I will investigate this and in the meantime continue to use my Sony HC85 to capture. Thanks.

Ok, well there is a workarround.. What one can do is simply use the AV cables, a USB Video IN Dongle, about $20.00. this then will allow you to connect the Camera to the PC, you can then "Stream" the Video from the Camera, to the PC, via the USB link, at FULL HD quality, save the "Played" Video as a suitable file, and do whatever you want with it. Using DVR software you simply, play on the recorder and Record on the DVR, and you'r good to go. Save as an MPEG4 or whatever format you want.
If you know how to edit the conf files then maybe you can make the existing scratch drive, persistent, making it unable to be removed.
Also you may like to try a Firewire to USB Dongle, this then will allow you to use the USB port, NOT the firewire..then at least you will be able to get data into the PC that way, although a wee bit slower, but this hardly matters in the big scheme of things.

Mac loads and runs fine, but every time I try to update the programs on my Mac it keeps asking for a password, I don't know.

Which program were you trying to update? Are you trying to download and install new software (that is not from Apple App Store?) Are you running Mountain Lion (OSX 10.8)? The password needed is your administrator password.

I have my DVX100B hooked up to my computer through a firewire cable. The firewire port works fine. But I can't get any video editing software to register that the camera is connected. Is it possible for...

People are always blowing out their firewire port by making a hot
hookup. Don't confuse firewire with USB, which is safe. In the users manual you will see warnings about making sure the equipment is powered off before hooking up the firewire cable.
Try hooking it up to another computer and try using a simple program like Windows Movie Maker or something, if it still doesn't
regognize it, get your camera into an authorized service facility.

HI, I recently purchased a dvx100b. I hook it up to my computer via a firewire cable. For some reason my computer doesn't seem to communicate with the camera.

Pages 54 to 60 talk about transferring to a digital converter box.Remember this is an analog camcorder that records to a tape, you will need a digital converter to plug into your computer.Computers only work in digital, analog signals are not understood. My converter was only $25.It's Very time consuming downloading to your computer,it's done in real-time.Minute for minute, hour for hour.I've got 50 tapes to convert and it takes forever..............!

I have dvx100b I cant get it to transfer the filming to my pc

No special drivers with this camcorder.
Try to connect on another pc,if problem continues then must be problem in connection board.Usually pc identifies immediatelly when firewire is connected,so if pc is ok problem must be on the other side of wiring.

I cannot set the desktop boot from CD -ROM in VIA P4M800 pro, 2the max .I set it in BIOS . but it cannot still boot from CD-rom and I have insert the win X_ CD in it alredy .It still boot from hd .Why??...

Maybe you overlook to "save and exit" the settings. Also do check the connection of the cd rom or its read capability. Do check also the disc is bootable when the CPU doesn't find boot command and system on cdrom it will find to next drive.

    Hope this help.

    Dvx100b

You have to go into your menu and turn the dv setting to off. This setting as it is now thinks you have an external device connected via the firewire (like a hard drive FS100) so, go into the recording settings on the menu, scroll down to 1394 or dv and turn this setting off.

    Firewire problem

this sounds like you could have blown the firewire port on the mac, this can happen if you plug in and out, even though it is supposed to be hot swappable. if nothing shows up on the firewire port but does show up on other ports on other computers then that could be the problem. its back to base with apple for a repair.

My Book firewire not bootable on mac

I picked up a couple of My Books lately( via Ebay), and noticed that i can not get them to work on the Firewire interface with my Dual Core Intel Mac. Shows up on USB2.0 fine however.I found an online reference that said Apple changed some things on the Firewire interface year or two ago, and that vendors had to update their firmware (it related to Firewire devices reporting a unique ID to the Mac).
