Hp p3005n keeps getting paper jam error in tray 2 like every other page it prints and there is no paper jammed. I replaced the printer with a new one and get the same annoying error. So when you printing a large document you ahve to sit and babysit and keep pushing the continue button everytime it errors.

I use a P3005n at work to print literally thousands of pages per day. Paper tray 2 has what is called a "pick roller", and as the poster above mentioned, it gets worn down and loses its texture which causes it to slip when picking a sheet of paper. This will cause a "jam in tray 2" error when either there is no jam and opening/closig the tray and pressing the green button will get the print job to continue a while, or it may possibly cause a sheet to feed only an inch or so and stop, causing you to need to open the tray and yank the partially-fed page out and resume printing.
Now sometimes, cleaning paper dust from that roller will help the issue for a while, but the problem will return in time. Regular cleaning is a necessary maintenance item for these printers.

Keep in mind that it may feel like there is still texture on your pick roller, but the problem is that these rollers do not roll. They are a cam mechanism that move back and forth to feed, which means that it is the same small section of the roller that contacts the page each time. So there may be texture on the roller, but only the part that touches the paper is worn out.

Now, that solves one feed issue.

Another feed issue I have is that one of my printers will feed without a problem if the paper tray is half full or less. Yet if I fill the tray with a whole ****, I will have feed errors every 20 pages or so, until the paper level lowers.

I have not solved this yet, but yesterday my husband (who knows nothing about printers specifically, but is a gifted mechanic) suggested that there is a spring that gets compressed to raise the pick mechanism when the tray is full. He says that although the pick is cam-driven, there is a spinning motor that runs the cam. If that shaft is worn, it will slip when there is pressure on the unit, but as the pressure releases when the paper level drops, the drive shaft will slip less and feed more easily. It is something worth investigating - I am going to share this theory with our printer technician today.
