Hi, Problem is the icemaker will only dispense crushed ice not cubes. The bin is full of ice, and when I press the button for cubed ice the light comes on for that option. What should I check for? Thanks

SOURCE: Dispenses crushed ice and will not dispense ice cubes

You have a solenoid switch which switches the dispenser back and forth from crushed to cube. It could be stuck or not working or the parts connecting it could be disconnected or broken. You will have to observe to see if any parts are moving and if any noise is coming from the solenoid

SOURCE: icemaker dispenses crushed ice when you select cubed ice

Hello,

A faulty ice maker thermostat, a choked up water line or a defective water inlet valve could be the reason your ice maker is unable to produce proper ice cubes. There will be water line behind the refrigerator which you need to check for proper water flow. In case of water not flowing properly through this pipe, clean or replace it if necessary. Inspect the water inlet valve and get it changed if it has broken down. Set you freezer temperature not more than 8 degree Fahrenheit, to ensure a correct ice formation cycle.

If you take out the bin with the ice in it, right behind it there should be a very small box with a lever in it. It doesn't exactly look like a lever, but a piece of plastic that is in the little box, and it slides up and down. It gets stuck down or up (I forget which). You can just push it with your fingers, usually. Push it up and down a few times to unfreeze it.

Take care.

Getting shaved ice instead of cubes

Several possibilities, but check first for cubes that are too small (means too little water is coming in during ice maker fill) and those cubes fracture into smaller bits when they are dispensed.

Another possibility is the cube/crushed plate inside the dispenser is stuck. This is a curved plastic piece that lies next to the crusher blades inside the dispenser head of the ice storage bin. For cubes this place must be retracted (swing away from) the crushed fingers to allow the cubes to pass without being broken up.

The ice maker of our GE GSH25JSXSS is only producing crushed ice even when it's set to cubed. Is there a way to fix this issue?

Check that the shifter bar on the bottom of the ice bin is moving to shift from cubed ice to crushed. With the ice bin out you should see movement in the back wall of the freezer with the light switch button held in while changing the dispenser controls from cubed to crushed. GSH25JSXASS Parts

Ice maker works fine and ice comes down but when it goes to crush the ice it wont crush it jams up

Hi,

Remove the ice bin, examine the metal arm on the back of the bin. This arm needs to move up and down freely, this arm is the shifter for the cube and crush setting. Also look at the square hole in the back of the freezer where the bucket came out of, the shifter in there needs to be down all the way also.

With the freezer door open, depress the cube setting on the door, hold the light switch and depress the dispenser button, do you hear a click? If so the shifter works in the freezer and the problem in in the bin itself. With no model number given, I have to assume the ice bin is not in the door, its inside the top portion of the freezer section.

Good Luck

I have a Frigidaire FRS23H5ASB9 side-by-side. The "cube" button works, but only crushed comes out. "Crushed" button works fine, too, but we usually want cubes. What's causing this? Is it the dispenser or...

most likely the solinoid is frozen or bad.. pull ice bin, the metal lever on back of bin fits in solinoid in freezer see if you can move plastic piece in freezer with finger.

My icemaker is not making ice. This has happened 3 times in the past 3 years but this is the longest it has gone without making ice. The other 2 times it lasted 2 days. It has now been 4 daysince the ice...

Check the following:
Is the freezer door closed completely?
Is the ice storage bin installed correctly?
Is there ice in the storage bin?
Has the ice frozen in the storage bin?
Is ice stuck in the delivery chute?
Has the wrong ice been added to the storage bin? Use only
cubes produced by the current ice maker.
Has the ice melted around the auger (metal spiral) in the
ice bucket?
Dump the ice cubes and clean the ice storage
bin.
Is the ice dispenser stalling while dispensing “crushed”
ice?
Change the ice button from “crushed” to “cubed.” If
cubed ice dispenses correctly, depress the button for
“crushed” ice and begin dispensing again.
Has the dispenser arm been held in too long? Ice will stop
dispensing when the arm is held in too long. Wait 3 minutes
for dispenser motor to reset before using again.

Ice maker

There is something called a crusher control rod located on your icemaker bin. If you pull the bin out, you'll see it protruding from the backside of the bin. That rod inserts into the solenoid, which looks like a hole usually when looking in the freezer with the ice bin removed, it's toward the left side behind the bin.

This solenoid and rod work together to give you either crushed or cubed ice. See if the solenoid is stuck or iced up. You should be able to remove the ice and push it up and down to break it free.
