The scanner lock button on the Kyocera TASKalfa 4012i is located on the left-hand side of the machine, towards the back of the scanner unit. It is a small lever that can be turned to lock or unlock the scanner unit.
To solve the C3100 error on the Kyocera TASKalfa 4012i, you should first check to make sure that the scanner lock is in the unlocked position. If the scanner lock is already unlocked, the issue may be related to the scanner motor or the scanner home position sensor.
In this case, it is recommended that you contact Kyocera technical support or a certified Kyocera service technician for assistance in resolving the issue.

You don't say what make/model of your printer is. Try going on their website and see if they have a troubleshooting chapter. They likely have a section where their error codes, their causes and solutions are listed.
