Check the Page Black (PGI 220) and make sure the orange tape at the rear end is not still attached. If it covers the small hole on the top of the cartridge, the printer won't print black text.

What is the best cleaning chemical to clean the print head of a canon ip4600? I bought acetone but it does not get the ink off my fingers so I am thinking not the right cleaning chemical. The large black...

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent inkdrying out in the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer thanreplace the print head.

Canon PIXMA iP4600 - error 6A80

Hello someone else here had this problem, this is what he posted: "Same problem with a Canon MP540 fresh from the box. Turned out to be the print head unit was not returning fully to the home position ie extreme right. My Fix : When the scanning unit cover is raised the print head unit moves left for access, look in the vacated area to the right, in particular the small black sponge where the head normally parks. I found a small spring jammed in beside the sponge, removed it and all is well. Don't know what the spring was meant to do but everything is working fine without it.On the MP540 the head unit now glows red, presumably meaning all is well... "

Waste absorber full

Inkjet printers have a fibrous pad inside them that collects the waste ink from cleaning the print head. Over time, this pad fills up with ink and can no longer hold any more. When this occurs, the printer indicates a "waste ink tank full" error.

Replacing the waste ink absorption pads is something an authorized canon service facility can take care of for you. Once they are replaced, it'll be functional again.

Canon pixma ip4600 black ink problem

The PGI-220 is the larger ink tank and is filled with standard black ink. The PGI-221 black cartridge is the photo black. There is no way to force the printer to use the photo black cartridge (skinny one) to print documents. The photo black cartridge is only used if you print a photo. I own a Cartridge World ink refilling shop and I can't refill these cartridges yet. There is no way to reset the ink level chip without a resetter and any replacement chips you find on the internet are technically violating patent law.

Black 3e won't print

Well this is a maybe solution. I have the same problem - photo print and CD/DVD Ok but plain paper = no pigment black 3eBk tank.

CRC (tasktron Ltd) (01483 776 060) are Canon service guys and they have told me it is the "purge" unit on the right of the machine that needs replacing COST??? Quote £80 + VAT. Is it worth it - I think that is a maybe as its a dammed good printer and cheap to refill - no chips! However, the ip4600 is only £70???????????

On the other hand - they could be lying! But I have reset all the main chip controls like overflow, ink absorber etc.

So it's either a new printer or £80+Vat.

Parts

The BJC-55 takes 2 different types of print heads. And also a scanner head, that snaps into the same place and turns the printer into a scanner.

One print head is a Canon BC-11E. It has 2 ink tanks in it. 1 black and 1 tri-color. It prints in full color or black

The other print head is a BC-10. It prints only in black. But the ink yank holds 4 times the black ink of the BC-11E. It is very popular with business travelers who print only documents. The printer works about twice as fast with it. And replacing ink is a lot cheaper.

The scan head is called an IS-12.

Prices range from 40 to 60 dollars in supply stores ( Staples, etc)

Ebay is a good place to look for them
