Kenmore Elite Oasis 110.2706 Top Loader Grinding Noise

Please help! Our washer is two years old. We haven't had any problems with it until now. The other day, my husband washed several loads of laundry, and everything was fine. He finished off the set by washing our large, very heavy bathroom rug. By the end of the cycle, the washer began making loud grinding noises (during the rinse cycle). Today, it has continued to make the same awful sound during the rinse cycle. There aren't any error messages displayed. We would really appreciate any ideas or suggestions for this problem.

Thank you so much! We took off the hoses and found a hard chunk of lint wrapped around a piece of wire in one of the pumps. You saved us the $214 we almost paid for a service call and warranty. We really appreciate your help!

If you remove the back panel, there are two pumps towards ethier side at the botom of the tub. If you remove the back hoses (have some towels ready) You may find something in one of the two pumps.

  • Anonymous Feb 20, 2012

That was exactly my problem. Musr have left a drillbit in one of my shirt pockets. Definatly have towels on hand and I suggest starting with the main discharge pump (leftside looking from back) Whole job took 20-30 mins only because I started with right side tube. Tools: 1/4" nut driver or flathead screwdriver, pliers for spring clamps.

Remove the impeller, by prying off the center cap and removing the center bolt. Lift off the impeller and look for debris.

SOURCE: I keep getting the OL message on my Kenmore Oasis

Hello, welcome to FixYa.

I'm pretty sure I know what you're referring to and contrary to what has been posted by another FixYa memeber, it likely is not the motor assembly...more often it is just an item stuck under the basket/drive hub as most with REAL experience would know.

In fact I can explain what needs to be done to gain access and repair though it is pretty involved (via removing the tub...it's pretty easy once you see how...much easier with the manual and some guidance).

As I alluded to, it is most likely the drive/spin basket hub under the inner basket (spin basket) and it is being jammed by a sock, undergarment or the like, but you'll need to remove the complete outer tub assembly unfortunately.

This almost always manifest's in the "oL" error code (possibly even error "UL" & "F51") and prevents proper wash or spin...though it usually will certainly fill and drain O.K...unless the error appear's many times it may simply go into a shut down/no action (F1) mode.

I can provide a follow up post on how to do this, including pictures and step by step guidance if you think you are capable, or I alternatively can provide you a service manual if you post an email address.

I'll watch for your reply. Thank's for visiting FixYa today. Good luck.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

SOURCE: small rug washing in front end loader washer

its problably not able to balenbace the load of rugs, if the machine cant balance itwont go to high speed spin. in actuallity your probalby better off bringing the rugs to the laundry mats, especially if the are rubber backed, the rubber backing will come off clogging your pump assy, then your looking at replacing hte pump for a few hundred dollars, for a clean set of $30 bath rugs.

The error is actually correct. OL means "over load" which the unit actually thinks is happening because the motor is struggling to turn the motor. You'll need to order and replace the motor to fix this problem unfortunately.

I hope this helps, abd just keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment. Have a nice weekend and thanks for using FixYa.

Jose.

Replace tub bearing on top loader Kenmore elite

I have a Kenmore elite oasis top loader. The tub bearing caused the noise level to get increasingly higher over a period of a few weeks. Finally it sounded like an airplane taking off. I thought about trying to fix it myself. Meanwhile I talked to the Sears representative and they offered me a one year warranty ( my old warranty ran out last year and I did not renew). The cost was about $135.00. However, I talked to a relative who works in the factory and he thought that was a good deal. I called the repairman and am glad I did. The bearing was stuck so badly that he had to remove outer tub and finally replace with a new one. Two men came the next day and installed the new tub and associated bearing. I saved a lot of money and the washer sings quietly now. So, before you get in over your head, you might want to see if there is an available warranty. Otherwise, get ready for a fight getting the bearing out from under the washer.

I have a kenmore elite oasis ht top loader that won't drain. When it reaches that part of the cycle there is a grinding noise and the tub doesn't empty. The grinding sounds similar to a fish tank filter...

sounds like you have something in the pump if you have kids it could be a small sock. yes you can fix it yourself first unplug it!!!! you should be able to remove theback cover then you will see the pump there will be 2 black hoses going into it looks like a donut if you pull these hoses offf there will be alot of water so get ready. then look in the pump alot of time ladies pantyhose get in there . if it's not the pump make sure there is not a kink in the hose going out. good luck be careful

See the following Whirlpool / Kenmore service manual for the Whirlpool Cabrio washer. The Kenmore Oasis is basically the same.

Also see the Sears Parts site for your washer.

Enter the full (###.########) model number and you should see descriptions of the major components and parts lists.

Call or email the consumer feedback or make a complaint to Sears. I had a similar prob. Sears ending up replacing rhe washer and paying for rental. Took up to 3-6 months, calling and writing complaint letters.

Machine will not switch to drain and spin cycle

If you take the front off in the lower right you will find a pump motor that controls the drain flow. This may defective. Use a shop vac to empty the water in washer if needs be. But remove and test this pump.

Washer full and then stops and gives a beep while flashing F 51

On Kenmore F51 means Motor RPS Failure, the motor is not spinning or the motor sensor detects a fault.First unplug the power cord for one hour or so to check if it is a jammed sensor, and see if reset.
