Please go to the power supply and see if the caps are puffed on top. I supect they are.
Replace all caps that are puffed or leaking. this will solve your problem and Utube will help you .

There are capacitors on the power supply board that dry out with age. You can identify them by observing the tops of each of them. They have to be flat, not domed. Some of them may be discolored from heat. You can get parts from here: TV Parts Universal TV Stands DLP Chips ShopJimmy
In the DLP sets there is a lower reliability than with the conventional LCD and Plasma screens.
I will make a best guess because I don't have the set opened in front of me to troubleshoot it.
The fault you have can be with the main video processor board, or with the DLP display chip itself, or possibly something with the colour wheel system.
By the nature of the fault you are describing, it sounds to be thermo sensitive.
You should take the set in for an estimate to have it serviced. I can tell you in advance, if the fault is anything like I am speculating the repair will be on the expensive side.
I would be seriously considering a Plasma or LCD set. Stay with main brand names that have local service. From all that I have seen, I was never crazy about DLP type TV sets.
Sometims several capacitors start going bad giving you the audio problem, but I don't remember the set turning itself off. That could be a secondary problem around the flyback transformer which may have a bad solder connection. I would check that first. Otherwise, I would be tempted to go with HDTV.
Hey! I have the same problem as you. But! this would happen only when I got a power outage. Unplug the TV for a couple of minutesand all was fine. For the last 5 day I have no TV. I have tried everything. All the out on the TV and I still get unusable signal. My rep told me to unplug for 24 Hours. Still didn't work. My menu option work as well and every time I put the TV on, off or if I change the input sound will come on for 2 seconde and stop. If I find the salution I will let you know.
