Hi, I've a SONY WALKMAN NW-E403 I can't turn it on when i plug the usb cable nothing happens the screen is off it doesn't charge what can I do to fix it ? PLEASE HELP ME

I had the same problem! Went on Sony trouble shooter found this -
Cause:
Battery is 100% discharged. Therefore, PC's USB with 5V/500mA set up has not enough power to start up the charging process because loading current is greater than the set up, therefore USB is disabled immediately due to sudden current load.
Remedy:

1. Battery must not be discharged 100%
2. If it happens then the supplied AC adaptor must be used firstly because it is providing 5V/800mA power. After a couple of minutes the unit can be connected to PC without problem then it can continue the charging during file transfer, etc.

Basically when the battery is totally flat the computer power is not strong enough to charge the battery and run the mp3 player! I bought a usb adapter charger and charged it up and now it works!

Your walkman may just be old, or defective. Try contacting them to see if they have a recall on it or if they can replace it. Otherwise the hardware may be fryed or just plain defective.

You may purchase a usb data transfer and charge cable as well as the adapter from Sony Parts.

there is ways to get a new cable like go to futureshop.ca and order one or bestbuy.ca and u can check for a compatible cord and u can get it shiped thru the mail

i have a sony nw e305 , same problem no detection and no charging even after it shows tht the battery is charging.. and the walman shows charge error at times...

1. install the drivers from cd which came along with the player
2. check the USB adapter cable
3. Check the message dialong whenever you connect your USB cable to ur computer on the taskbar.
4.if you get message " one of the usb device connected cannot be recongised" then the problem with the Player adapter controller
5.your computer USB may be malfuntioning
6. check for the drivers installed. if not install drivers from the installation diskette
