No sound at all on w.Media player
Help plz
Many tks
You may need to update your windows media player. or you can try to download a code pack and install it onto Windows Media Player. Most of the time it is due to lack of codec. Or you can check on this article: "Windows Media Player Play No Sound".
Hi,
Thanks for asking for solution,I would require some additional info.
1. Does windows media player give you an error while playing the file ?
2. Is the problem only in windows media player ? eg, are you getting windows startup sound.
In the meantime try system restore , take the computer back to the date when it was working fine.
ps: do let me know the make of the sound card and which windows operating system you are using

I see that you have video but there is no sound, if this happens to all audio that you play try checking your audio drivers first if they are correct and installed properly by checking in device manager from your control panel.
if all is correct then this can be a codec problem.
update/download codec for you machine this should make audio work for your system.
codecs can be downloaded free on the internet you can search in google as well. - http://www.free-codecs.com/
You have to be more specific, what made you uninstall all this? what happened (changed) when the problem arrived? did you checked for viruses? did you re-installed everything you uninstalled?, I would try updating your sound card driver, update your antivirus, than scan the computer for viruses...
AS you state the "device is working properly" so it must be something else. Try playing a music CD and if the music looks as if it is playing, it probably is and there is a mechanical problem with the headphone socket or the volume is not activated. Check the Mixer Console by r/hand mouse click the loudspeaker icon and select Volume mixer. Hope that fixes it
Can you play audio files even if there's no sound with the Windows Media Player? if so some files of the sound driver is missing, you need to update the sound driver. Or if you can't play, then there's no sound driver only the codec is present without the device driver, the process is more or less the same..but before you follow these steps, put the Motherboard Driver CD on the CD Rom: Right Click on My Computer - Manage - Device Manager - Right click on the Yellow icon - Update Driver - No, Not this time - Next - Install from a list or Specific location - Next - Tick the "Include this Location in the Search - Browse - Go to the CD Rom Directory and search the Driver/Audio folder - and Select the Audio Driver folder - click OK- Next - Finish.. done..... Good luck.. Do let me know if this doesn't solve your problem, i am ready to help you..
What are you using to play the DVD. Sometimes the DVD software the codecs the company uses the license runs out and if you don't update to the latest software it won't play dvd's properly. You can try an alternate program VLC media player. It plays most everything and uses its own seperate codecs. At least this way if it plays fine with VLC you know it is a codec issue, with that DVD software.
START - My Computer (RIGHT CLICK) - Properties - Hardware Tab - Device Manager button - click on the sound, video and game controllers - on the drop down menu you should see sound codec - either right click and UPDATE DRIVER - or delete sound codec’s and restart, XP will install suitable sound drivers.
If that doesn’t work then try installing sound drivers from the computer manufacturer.
If you have a big X on the sound codec or your third party drivers than it’s a hardware issue.
If replacing the drivers’ doesn’t work then it's a hardware issue. If you have onboard sound card then you will need to replace the mother board. I hope it's under warranty.
BrendanG21, I had the same problem this morning. My sound actually quit in the middle of listening to music. Simply restart your computer (it may take a couple tries). If it's saying you have no audio device installed, but everything looks normal when you go into device manager, it's probably the same problem and this should work.

If you have the cd for the motherboard, you can install the driver for your sound. Look in device manager under sound video and game controllers, and find your sound card. I had the same problem when I put in a new hard drive, I didnt have any sound so I had to install the driver from the cd. If you don't have the cd, you can always find the driver on the web. a good site to check is www.driver.com
