Well if you have bought the right battery and the proper charger this sounds very odd, did the amp hr and every say the same details on the battery & charger as the old one? when you charge the camera how long was it till you used the camera? as Sony cameras lose around 30% charge per week, I know because I have a Sony still camera and movie, both lose charge, my still camera goes flat in 3 weeks after a full charge with no use at all, so they are never good bits of equipment with batterys.
have a look at what the volts and amps are set for, if there to low it wont charge your batterys up as all the power is used up just in running the camcorder
The replacement battery you purchased is either lacking the battery sense circuitry or it is bad. Sony includes a circuit in the battery that provides information to the camcorder about the amount of charge in the battery and feedback during the charge cycle. Buy an original Sony battery (I know they are more expensive, but you get what you pay for) and your problem should be gone
If you read the instructions, you MUST use the external charger that comes with the camera to charge the battery, the camera wont charge the battery. The DC jack on the camera just powers the camera from the AC adapter, but doesnt charge battery
This camera has had problems with the primary switch block faulting. The camera will power up all by itself when unattended and drain the battery. Another symptom would be the battery refuses to charge fully because the camera must remain in the "OFF" mode for the charge process to begin.
Sony in Laredo, TX is replacing these controls at little or no cost, I would call them to see if they will repair this for you.
Hope this helps you.
