Asko 6221 washer won't drain, now won't fill either

Hi My washer was bought used and hasn't worked right since I got it. The drain doesn't work and makes a gravelly sound, but the pin trap is clear. A repairman replaced the drain pump, but it still doesn't drain and still makes that noise. Only now it doesn't fill, either! I manually drained it. so the drum is empty, but the door doesn't open. It does rotate back and forth , as in a wash cycle, but instead of filling it just hums. Any ideas?

Still getting nowhere on my Asko 6221 washer. The drainlines are clear, checked by the repairman, and the pump was replaced, but still not draining and still making that sound. Anyone?

  • griff45 Jun 25, 2008

In answer to Micromaster, the water doesn't drain out at all. The drain for the hose is about 35 inches high. Also, now it doesn't fill either. I was wondering if this is a problem with the machine's fill valve or an circuit board.

  • griff45 Jun 26, 2008

A question for Hematraj : The Asko 6221 appears to have several circuit boards, One called the Timer Control Assembly, Another called Control Unit wm33/44a. The second one is the large board, the first one seems to be part of the timer knob, but has a circuit panel, too. As these are expensive, I want to be sure which one to order. Thanks for being very helpful!

My asko washer, 6221 has a gravelly sound when it tries to drain. The pump was replaced by a repairman, but it still makes that sound and doesn't drain. Now the washer won't fill, either. I hear the sound of something trying, but then just a hum and no water. The valve is on and there is water to the machine. One expert suggested it was faulty control board that was to blame, but which one is it? These boards are expensive so I want to get the right one!
    Thanks for any help.

Dear Sir,

Although all brands are different in design, the basic concept is the same. Water comes in at the top, and goes out at the bottom. A pump forces the water to go in a particular direction. When a machine won't drain, there are several things to consider:

  • Is the drain hose kinked?
  • Does the lid switch click when closing? (see video below)
  • Something in the pump or hoses? Check the hose coming down from the tub for socks, rags, etc.
  • Bad wigwag?
  • Broken belt? Loose belt?
  • Current to motor? (Use voltmeter to check)
Never seal off a washer drain because your drain is sluggish. Have it cleaned professionally. Sealing off a washer hose will cause pump failure in a short time, not to mention wear and tear on the clutch and basket drive parts. A siphon break kit is available for those with difficult drains for $15.95.

Thanks
Good Luck

To be perfectly honest with you, there is a multitude of things that could cause this, from a clog to bad circuit board to an intermittent problem with the pump. It can get costly to narrow down the exact problem, and may be cheaper and definitely easier to buy another used washing machine. You can get a used washing machine fairly cheap, and it beats the headaches you going to have with this one. Try buying from a place that sells refurbished versus an individual, these places will usually work with you if there is a problem.

If the water that pumps out of the machine goes back into the machine after the spin cycle, your washer may be siphoning the water from a laundry tub that has a slow drain, back into the washer. The usual remedy for this is to improve the draining of the laundry tub. (Is something stuck in the drain?) Also, check for these problems:

  • If the drain hose reaches more than about 4 inches into the laundry tub, cut off the excess.

  • If your drain hose is lower than the washer's cabinet, install an air gap/siphon break assembly.

if you were working now inside the unit and there a lot of space to see around the parts inside, it is better that you check also the water inlet valve on the washer, it was located on the lower left corner possibly on your unit..

      let me know..

    Hi,

If it won’t drain check these.

If your washer spins but doesn't pump the water out, the drain line is probably clogged. In many washers, a small sock or other piece of clothing can get between the clothes tub and the outer tub that holds the water. If the clothing gets between the tubs, it may then get into the drain hose that's attached to the pump--or even into the pump itself. If it's in the pump, you need to remove the hoses from the pump and pull the item out.

To remove the sock from the outer tub port, open the washer's main access panel and remove the large-diameter rubber hose that connects the pump to the bottom of the outer tub. Then, using needle-nose pliers, try to grab and remove the clothing through the port.

Sometimes you can't remove the stuck clothing from below. Then you have to remove the agitator, top of the outer drum shield, and inner clothes tub. This isn't easy to do--and you may need special tools--so you might be happier getting a qualified appliance repair technician to do the job.

If the drain line isn't plugged, the problem may be with your pump. Even if the pump appears to be turning, the internal impeller may be broken. If so, you need to replace the pump.

    It doesn't spin or pump
If your washer doesn't spin or pump water out but the motor is running, your washer probably has a frozen pump pulley. If so, you need to replace the pump. To check the pulley, remove the pump from the washer and try to rotate the pulley manually. If it doesn't turn freely--if it's frozen or stiff--replace it.
It pumps, but the water returns
If the water that pumps out of the machine goes back into the machine after the spin cycle, your washer may be siphoning the water from a laundry tub that has a slow drain, back into the washer. The usual remedy for this is to improve the draining of the laundry tub. (Is something stuck in the drain?) Also, check for these problems:

    • If the drain hose reaches more than about 4 inches into the laundry tub, cut off the excess.

    • If your drain hose is lower than the washer's cabinet, install an air gap/siphon break assembly.

Sounds like you might need to replace your circuit Control card.
This is most likely the case.Since you cleaned out the pin trap this is the only other solution. I would contact the repair man I dont believe he fixed the correct problem.
      Hope that helps,
      Lee

I am not convinced it is a "control card" at this point.

Washer will not spin at all no code . will drain and tumble back and forth, when it comes time to spin it turns off.

A washing machine is basically a big tub that repeatedly fills with water and then drains, spins to wring clothes dry, and has a device for stirring things up-- either an agitator in the middle of a top-load machine or a rolling drum in the case of a front-loader.
The four cycles that every washer performs are fill, wash, drain, and spin. Though these functions are pretty basic, a number of things can go wrong with them.
There are a number of problems that you can fix quite simply; some issues, however, are better left in the hands of an appliance repairperson.Problems that commonly occur with a clothes washer are discussed in depth below. If your washer doesn't run, be sure it's plugged in and that the receptacle works (the circuit hasn't overloaded). Before working on the washing machine, be sure to unplug it.
To prevent problems, follow good maintenance procedures. Use the right amount of detergent for your washer and your water hardness, make sure the machine is level, and don't overload it for the cycle chosen.

    Washing Machine Does Not Fill
If the washer doesn't fill, the water inlet screens may be blocked. Clean or replace them. (Check your owner's manual for the location of the screens; they're often located at one end of the supply hoses, or you may have to remove a panel to access them.) Other reasons for not filling may be that either the timer or temperature selector is broken--both of these are repairs for an appliance repairperson.

    Washer Does Not Spin
If your washer doesn't spin, check to see if the clothes have jammed or are unbalanced in the drum before calling a repairperson. Unbalanced clothes will also cause a w
asher to shudder or "walk." If straightening out the load doesn't stop the washer from shaking, look at the feet underneath and be sure they are properly adjusted to keep the washer sitting level on the floor (you just turn them to move them up or down).
Clothes Are Wet After Spin Cycle
If your clothes remain wet after your washer's spin cycle, perform the following diagnostics:
    1) Lift the lid during the spin cycle. If the tub is not spinning, you may have a damaged motor coupler. Call a repairperson to replace this part.
    2) If the tub is spinning, recheck the load to make sure it is balanced. If you are certain the load is balanced but your clothes are still wet, you may need to call a repairperson to replace a damaged motor pulley, tub bearing, belt, or clutch.

    3) You can also follow the troubleshooting steps outlined in "Washing Machine Doesn't Drain." You may have a problem with your drain hose or pump.

    Hi

If the cycle won't complete then either it's a problem with the timer or a cold-water supply problem:-

If your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water.
