You can get the Service Manual from that site 5 post down. I have some post in the sticky for troubleshooting the OP error code along with some pics of the left hand lid lock. Post in that forum and I will help you get the machine back in service.
I feel you have lost signaling from the Left Hand Lid Lock for Lid is Open/ Lid is Closed. First check is to place a magnet over the Left Hand grey bumper and while watching the LED display see if the OP error code clears.If it does you have a lid magnet out of position.See the Service Manual for access to the Lid Magnet. See Pic;
If an external magnet over the Left Hand grey bumper doesn’t clear the OP error code with the lid open then See this Link for troubleshootingLeft Hand Lid Lock Troubleshooting.I discuss the OD error code but the OP error code troubleshooting is very similar. If the lid Magnet is not out of position then I feel you have a broken lead at the Magnetic Reed relay or severe corrosion issues with the Left Hand Lid Lock preventing Lid Open/Lid Closed status signaling to the Control Board in the Console.
Greg, You have lost signaling thru the Left Hand Lid Lock. See this link for OD troubleshooting.If you have questions post back and I will help you….Rich Some handy links for your machine FAV6800A or FAV9800A correct? The Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.
Don’t force the lid open and break the lid locks. Here is the Service Manual and parts look up; FAV6800A/FAV9800A Service Manual for reference.Sears Parts Direct for reference. Use this procedure for releasing the washer top from the base;
Un plug the 120VAC power cord to the washer.
To raise the top of the machine.Insert a flat blade putty knife approximately 2.5” from the left and right sides of the washer top, depress the spring tabs securing machine top to the washer base.See page 33 of the SM for putty knife insertion point.
Here is the pic from page 33.
This will get the clothes out.
With the washer top raised gently push to Left and Right lid lock latches to outside of the lid the unlock position. You can now lower the washer top to the base. Do you want to DIY the OP error code? The OP error code could be caused by a Lid Magnet out of position.To do a quick check with the lid open power up the washer.Do you have the OP error code showing?If so take a large magnet and place it over the grey left lid bumper and see if the OP error code will clear the LED display. A Pic for reference;
If that doesn’t clear the OP error code we would need to do deeper troubleshooting. Are you up for that? Let me know……Rich If that doesn’t clear the OP error code we would need to do deeper troubleshooting. Are you up for that? Let me know……Rich
Hello barbarafreel, Your machine type is a FAV6800A correct? If so I would try to recycle 120VAC power to the machine. Pull the washer power cord for 30 seconds then repower backup. Do you still have the Lid Lock LED lit? If so further trouble shooting is required. I would next have you go into Service Mode. Once in Service Mode we need to go Board Output Test on page 16 of the Service Manual I will summarize below. Here is the FAV6800A/FAV9800A Service Manual for your machine.Follow all safety warnings when working on the machine. Let’s see if you can get into Service Mode, from the Service Manual slightly modified; Enter Service Mode by pressing and holding the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys simultaneously for three seconds or the display reads “00” Now look at page 16 of the service manual let’s see if you can with the Board Output Test function unlock and lock the Left and Right Lid Locks. Now press the Delicates key. The LED display should show ot and the Quick Wash led will be lit. The Left and Right Lid Locks will lock. Now press the Extra Rinsekey pad. A few seconds should elapse and the Whites led will go lit for a short duration then off and in a few seconds the Lid Locks should unlock.Do the Lid Locks unlock? Now press the Colors / Jeans key pad again. Do the Lid Locks lock? Let me know what action took place and we will go from there. You can get out of Service Mode by pressing Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys simultaneously or press the Off key. What I suspect is one of the lid lock is not releasing completely which moves a slide switch in the lid lock to signal the control board that the Lid is Unlocked and the Lid is Locked. If you still have the issue I would release the washer top form the base and unplug the Right Lid Lock and see if that right lid lock is signaling incorrectly and possibly causing the issue.The Service Manual will show you how to release the washer top from the base.The left lid lock because of its dual signaling function “the Lid is Open/the Lid is Closed” and “the Lid is Locked/the Lid is Unlocked” can’t simply be unplugged.If you pull the Left Hand Lid Lock plug you will show a OP or OD error from the Control Board.If you are up for the troubleshooting I will help you proceed further. Only the Left Lid Lock assembly needs to be plugged in for the washer to work as designed.I removed my Right Lid Lock a year ago and would never spend the money to replace it my choice.
If your machine is a FAV6800AW or FAV9800AW take a look at thispost and another post I link to in that post and see if you can work toward a fix. Try placing a magnet over the left bumper and see if it clears the OP alarm if it doesn’t you will need to troubleshoot the left Lid Lock assembly. The OP alarm is associated with the Lid Magnet operating the Magnetic Reed Relay and signaling back to the Control Board thru the left lid lock plug and cable assembly.
Hello Kristi, If itsFAV6800A/FAV9800A try placing couple 1” dia magnets or similar magnet on the left bumper of the machine and see if that will clear the the “OP” lid open alarm, see pic attached.If that clears the alarm the lid magnet may have moved out of position in the inner lid.See page 33 of the FAV6800A/9800A Service Manual for its location.If that doesn’t clear the “OP” alarm remove 120VAC to the machine and try reseating the left lid lock plug into the left lid lock a few times to possible clear corrosion causing loss of signaling from the left lid lock to the control board Lid Is Closed input.See page 33 and 34 of the SMfor pics if the left lid lock and lid magnet. I recommend surge protection on the120VAC outlet powering the machine to help protect the washer control board. Good luck Rich. Place some external magnets on left bumper and see if that will clear the "OP" alarm.
Try reseating the left lid lock plug into the left lid lock. Be careful, it may be difficult to remove for the 1st time.
For the FAV6800A the od alarm means the Control Board has not seen a lid open condition for three complete wash cycles. I suspect the left lid lock. I think you have a problem with the magnetic reed relay in the left lid lock.If you could try this?I want to make sure you signal an “OP” alarm to the display. Can you select Spin Only cycle with the lid open press start. Do you signal the “OP” alarm lid open to the display? If it does close the lid and the “OP” alarm should clear does it? I’m checking that the lid magnet is in place and the signaling connections are working thru the left lid lock back to the control board. Let us know what you fin and we will go from there.You could try powering down the machine by removing the 120VAC power cord from you wall receptacle.That may give you three more wash cycles before the od alarm is triggered again.
