I have 2 Epson V500 Scanners, 1 of them I just have on standby. The one I use daily does not turn on. I tried using the cables of the standby unit already. I checked the fuses on the plugs of both cables but, since the fuses are opaque, I can't tell if they are burned out. I also tried using my back up V500 Scanner with both cables, and even that doesn't work. I also tried changing wall outlets, to no success. Help!

  1. Check that the power socket switch is on Make sure your scanner's power cord is securely connected to the scanner and a working electrical outlet.
  2. If your scanner is supplied with a power adapter, make sure your scanner's AC adapter is securely connected to the scanner and a working electrical outlet.
  3. Make sure that the power outlet works. (If necessary, test it by plugging in another electrical device and turning it on.)
  4. Check that the power switch is on at the mains socket. If this is on, carefully check the power cable to ensure it is not damaged and remove then reseat it before attempting to turn the scanner on again. If your scanner has a power button, make sure that the button is depressed so it is turned on. Also, make sure that your outlet works and is not controlled by a wall switch or timer.
  5. Power off the scanner at the mains socket. Unplug the power cable from the socket, then remove and reseat the power cable from the scanner's power cable port. Plug the scanner back in at the mains and ensure the socket is switched on.
  6. If your scanner has a power button, does the power button depress when pressed? Press down firmly on the power button, if it is stiff and does not depress then there may be a problem with the button.

  7. Connect the scanner directly to the mains - not via a surge protector or extension lead. If your unit is connected via a surge protector or a power strip/extension lead, connect the unit directly to the mains socket.
  8. Try another suitable power cable. Check that other electronic devices connected to same power socket have power and try another mains socket and another power cable if necessary. Failing this try another suitable and known-working power cable. Depending on your scanner, a standard "kettle lead" or "figure of eight" power cable is used. If there is power to the scanner (indicated by an illuminated Start light), when a different power cable is used, then the fault is with the original power cable.

If the unit does not power on after following the checks above, contact Epson for support. If your scanner uses an AC adapter, then this may need to be replaced. If your scanner is over 12 months old, you can purchase a replacement AC adapter directly from Epson.

Try shutting down your computer and then unplug from the power source. Wait a minute then plug it back in and turn on the computer.

Accept the driver installation even though it does not pass Windows Logo testing. Just accept it and continue with the installation.

WANT TO DOWNLOAD A USER MANUAL FOR THE EPSON V500 SCANNER

Epson Perfection V500 installed. My computer recognizes it and diagnostic note says all okay. B ut when I turn on the power of the scanner, the grren light comes on in the front for about 15-20 seconds and then the scanner makes a loud grating noise and the green light turns orange and keeps flashing. No scan is attempted. TGhe noise sounds like something that should be moving can get started -- but nothing moves when you look at it. Should I take it back where I bought it?

Epson v500 not able to scan negatives! When I open uop the software, they don't even give me the option to scan negatives, just photos!

You probably need to reset (not reload) the scanner software. Start the Epson scan software. Select professional mode from the pull down menu (it lets you choose between auto, home and professional.) On the next screen select at the very bottom select configuration. The next screen should have 4 tabs, select other. The at the bottom (I think) select restore to factory defaults. This will reset your software, now you can use auto mode if you want it to make all your selections or home if you want some control or professional if you want to control everything. Don't forget to use your film holder that came with the unit and remove the white cover that is locked underneath the lid that covers the film illumination bulb.
