Im replacing engine on a model pm0525202 generator. i cant get armurature off shaft

rectifier not working replace it or gen is bad throw it away cost to much to fix

if by asking this im assuming the generator is face bolted to motor , if this is so , to save from having another front bearing , the gen stator is directed attached to motor shaft , on the far end under end bell cover is the end of shaft , a long bolt goes thru gen shaft to screw into motor shaft , MARK/photograph all the wires you unhook helps a lot when puting back together

Is the engine turning the shaft to the generator ? if it has a coupling device is it intact .. is there a reset button on gen output does it need reseting. or is it not working...

If this is the model I am thinking of, there are 3 outlets. One 240V (L1, L2, Neutral and Earth ground. Some models use a 3 terminal receptacle that combines Neutral and earth.), one 120V receptacle (L1, Neut, earth) and another 120V receptacle (L2, Neut, earth).

If you verified fuse and circuit breakers are good, turn on the generator and verify you get 120V on each of the two outlets. Measuring between the narrow blades of the two 120V outlets should be 240V.
***Shut off the generator.
With a test light or ohmmeter, check continuity from the earth terminal of 120V outlets to 240V outlet. Likewise for neutral (wider blade on 120V outlet). Lastly, check continuity from Narrow blade of each outlet to the 240V outlet.

I suspect that you miswired neutral and earth. On a 4 wire PLUG, it is customary to connect earth and neutral.

It sounds like the govenor spring has become disconnected or the clamp on the governor shaft has become loose and allowed the linkage to get out of adjustment. If problem has occurred suddenly it could mean the governor gear assembly inside the engine has broken and means the engine will need to be dismantrel to replace the governor gear assembly.
Check throttle linkage to see if spring is attached at both ends, one end on the throttle linkage and the other at the fixed point on the engine or to the end of the speed control lever. With engine stopped the spring should hold the throttle wide open and hand pressure on the linkage shoud be all that is needed to move throttle shaft closed to the idle position with no binding in the movement of the linkage.
If spring is OK and while engine is running, linkage should be able to be be moved to bring engine back to idle. If porblem has occurred gradually, then linkage will need re-adjusting. Loosen adjusting clamp on governor shaft, then holding linkage in wide open throttle position rotate shaft as far as it will go in the opposite direction to that requred to close throttle to idle . Re-tighten clamp.

Shaft is tapered, alternator is forced onto the shaft when the alternator adapter plate is bolted to the engine.

You need to replace the starter drive or the whole starter if you are not able to put the drive in yourself.another option is to take it to a starter repair shop and have them install a new drive.The drive is made up with a cog,a spline to travel up the armurature shaft with and a over running clutch,which allows it to get out of the ring gear after the engine starts.Over time the over running clutch will start "overrunning " on the way in to the ring gear as well as the way out and what you hear is the starter turning but the motor not,due to the slipping clutch in the drive.
