I have the same problem and best buy sent it to the repair company and want to charge me 150 to repair it, they say i dropped it and broke the lens on the inside but i never dropped it. I am furious with nikon and so disappointed! i thought nikon was a good company and made good camera, but clearly the s200 had defects and then len broke way to easily! man this is total BULL!!!!
I have the same problem with my nikon coolpix s200. After 2 months the lens of my camera won't go inside. On the lcd screen stood lens error. I went to a shop with this problem. He took the battery out of my camera and press the off and on button for a while. Then he put the battery back in the camera and press the on button. The lens of the camera was now going inside en outside and inside and outside with a strange noise. And also on the screen stood lens error. Okey, the lens is inside the camera. But how can I fix this camera? What is the problem? What have you done? Please let know..!!

Nikon S600 only had it for six weeks: it was in a felt pouch and dropped a few feet to wood floor. Lens error. Tried reseating lens, nothing worked. It is back at Nikon now, I will find out how much their poor design will cost me
Turn camera on, lens comes in and out making strange sound then says lens error. Camera never been dropped or damaged in any way. Had for 7 months but barely used!
I used my camera...it was perfectly fine one moment. I turned it off. Then about 20 minutes later, turned it on and the lens kept tryoing to focus, making that sound and then on the screen flashed, "Lens Error"
Ive tried turning it off and taking the battery out but nothing seems to work. Is anyone able to fix this problem?
