Hitachi 60UX58B will not turn on

We have been have thunder storms in the area since last Tues 6/10. I turned the tv off and left the house. The next evening I turned it on using the remote control and nothing happened. I unplugged the set for about 4 hours and then re-plugged it. The red LED power light flashed but nothing happpened. I tried using the remote and manually pressing the power button but nothing still. Have called the TV repairman. Will be here on Saturday. Any suggestions?

Your solution was RIGHT ON! I was able to get a repairman to come this morningm ( he left about 5 min ago). The power supply was blown. He soddered something, tinkered around abit, and left. It cost me $250 to repair but it was worth it. Thanks again for your help, because of your tip I didn't feel like an uneducated consumer. I was "more" confortable with his findings because they were "identical" to yours. Great Job! Keep up the good work.

I think there could have been a power surge... ask the repairman if the power supply is blown. :)

If you have Hitachi model number 50UX58B, 60UX58B, 50UX58K, 60UX58K, 50SBX78B or 60SBX78B and you have the following symptoms you may want to grab a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kit that includes the parts and instructions to fix these models. This is a fairly common problem with the above model numbers. It is typically caused by a blown capacitor and pico fuse. Again, you can get a kit from the above address.

Here are the symptoms...

Primary Symptom: No Audio or Video. Power light will come on briefly then shut off.
Other Possible Symptoms : The green LEDs on the circuit board light up for a few seconds then turn off.

Hope this helps,

Yes, i just answered a post to another problem simular to this, it is the POWER SUPPLY, it was blown either from an electric surge, caused by storms or ground faults, or it was shorted. you need to get a new one, have a professional install it for you.
