Do you mean to say the line does not pass through the closed caption? If yes then did you try a different input source such as a DVD(I'm assuming that his problem is on tv mode). Also can you please bring up the menu and tell me if it is affected as well?

Hi,
Closed caption comes in clear because that's part of the menu software which is 'down-stream video' and its a separate display function from input video processor codecs. Ok here's the deal with your TV problem, the squiggly lines you see are a result of faulty 'Hyper Module' that has around 15 surface-mount electrolytic capacitors that have warped internally (high ESR levels). This is a known problem with this model of TV, the repair its self is easy its just removing the Hyper Module that's tedious. To fix this problem requires removing the hyper-module from the main logic board and replacing around 15 capacitors of equal value and that's it....problem solved.

    Hi,

Sorry about the delay in reply,

Since this is a rear projection TV your better off getting it serviced from a professional TV technician. These TV's hold a deadly electrical charge even when unplugged, a pro technician will know how to disengage this deadly hazard. Also it will take soldering equipment and skills to remove the Hyper Module successfully with out damage. Then you will need an ESR instrument to interpret which capacitors on the 'hyper module' are faulty. Sometimes the quartz crystals on the hyper modules fracture from physical shock. This will cause a pinkish hue on the screen, meaning the crystals need to be replaced. But overall this repair from a professional is quick and familiar task so it shouldn't take long and shouldn't be expensive.

The image jumps and there are squiggly lines up top

This sounds like a hypermodule problem. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com for a kit to fix it.

It started out with alot of different colored squiggly lines it would clear up after about ten minutes but it just shut off yesterday the red button on the front still flashes though

Especially Projection TVs will shut down to protect the projection tubes because loss of proper scan can burn an image into the phosphors in the tube itself. The squiggly lines most likely are a symptom of a failure in the Horizontal output section (the part that scans the picture from left to right), there is also a possibility of the Vertical output section (the part that scans the picture from top to bottom causing the problem. This will require replacing a circuit board or repairing the one in the set at a component level. This is best left to a qualified Technician to do the work.

Picture quality

Contact your local service rep as this sounds like a "not so easy fix' related to the main board or power supply (known issues with Mits boards, especially the capacitors). Cleaning, resetting, re-configuring will not likely make any difference. Verify the problem occurs across all input modes (such as DVD, etc). before taking any service actions.

Squiqqly lines on TV

Hi Tammy, Yes it can be repaired, most companies charge about $250.00 to repair the convergence circuit. Have them check to see if the SRS/WOW 3D pcb has been modified also!

Squiggly Lines at Power On

Generally speaking, this type of symptom is caused by AC hum leaking throught the power supply. This can be due to a bad filter cap. Since this clears up after a while, I'd start by looking for poor solder connections in the power supply area. If you can, check the caps in that area as well. I'll research this a bit and try to get you more details.

Squiggly lines

I fixed alot of those sets already with the same problem there are about 10 capacitors in the hyper board that needs to be repalaced. Some companies like PTS will sell a rebuild hyper board and it would be easier to fix it that way than trying to rebuild it yourself depending on your skills.

32Inch Flat Screen SDTV - with picture distortion

If you have a TV shop at all any more in your area, any tech working on them will know where to look. This is a pretty common problem although you are getting it too early.
Since it will require a certain type of instrument (capacitance meter) to verify the problem part, I don't want to go into detail concerning a 'do-it-yourself' repair since it may be a little difficult to order these in single quantities and a decent shop should have the right value on hand.

It shouldn't cost too much.
