Usually when you get black stuff, it is oil. Probably a bearing has gone bad on the inside of the agitator or tub. I can only gues without seeing it in person.

My 1998 speed queen has black fibreous material coming in to the drum and staining garments black. The filter is good on the water supply. Can this be coming from the bottom bearing of the drum?

Remove FILL hose and try scraping out inside with a screwdriver. If you get the black stuff- fit new hoses.

Or , remove drum and look for build up muck
. If you have this you need to change your washing habit.

Why do i have loud noises coming from my washing machine only whilst it spins

The bearing in the drum has failed and it's always noiier as it spins faster as there is more debris being thrown around inside the hardened steel casing of the bearing. Bad news is that's a write off. Uneconomical repair. It will tear its self apart shortly, probably leaking grease into the wash and leaving black marks everywhere, oor the drive belt will come off, or the drum will impact the front gasket and fill the drum with smoke. Any way you look at it, it's almost certainly going to destroy a load of washing. Throw it away now before it wrecks your washing

Washing machine leaking from the bottom. I called a technician he told me it was the pump. I checked and i notice that the leaking comes from a black hose.

See if you can adjust the clamps
Get yourself a light and clean everything around hose so you can see where the leak is coming from. Sometimes the pump will spray the water and looks as the hose.

Doesn't enter spin cycle automatically. If I place into spin by hand then it will begin spin. What is wrong and how do I repair it?

your machine isnt empty of water by the pump
in a timely manner

so its an outlet blockage
check at the machine the pump and the outlet too the waist at the sink
you can find if you have kids they post things too be cleaned into the soap drawer
like lego monopoly hotels and houses nintendo plastic wands and many other things

if you post too the drawer then this stuff end up inbetween the inner drum and outer skin
and ends up floating around
and sometimes never ends up in the filter

so you sometimes need to fully drain the machine and remove the heating element from the drum
and fish around inside for grandma's socks or barbes best clothes
or your lost garments...

Kenmore Heavy Duty Plus Dryer 86273100 drum won't spin

How could the belt be in working order if the drum doesn't spin? Check to see if the belt has come off the motor. If the motor runs but your dryer doesn't spin, the belt is off. If the motor runs with the belt on but it still won't spin then you'll have a lot of black smoke because your drum is jammed. In other words, there are a number of things that could be wrong, but not very many.

My GE GCVH6260FWW front load washer made a load snap while spinning. Repair man couldn't find anything. So we ran a load through and at the end of the wash cycle it started thumping and vibrating on high...

If the drum is also loose, it is dead. The plastic your are finding comes from a part inside. It will cost more (or close) to fix than to replace and you risk breaking other critical parts if you DYI.

Abs kicks in everytime i get to 10 mph or less! it is scary. what is wrong with my car? the abs light only comes on sometimes though and they didnt even come on the first time this happened.

This kind of problem is most often caused by a broken sensor ring, but can also be a bad magnetic sensor. If you jack it up and look near the wheels, on the end of the CV shafts on the front, and inside the brake drums on the rear if you have drum rear, and in about the same spot as the front if you have disks and look for the gear-looking type ring. If any one of them is cracked or broken anywhere that is your problem. A Haynes manual available at your local parts store should have instructions for replacing it. if you don't find one broken then you should take it to a shop to have them see which sensor is causing your problem.

I have two socks inside my drum in my washing machine

They are probably wrapped around the heater element or laying in the sump that the heater sits in.

When you said you have removed the hose did you remove it from the pump end or the drum end.

The drum end should allow you to get a torch and a small mirror to take a look inside the base of the drum.

If you can see something then you are home and dry if not then:

Use a wire coat hanger and form a small 90 degree bend in the end say 18mm, dont make it too big in case it fouls on the heater.

Use that to probe along the bottom of the inside of the drum

If you can feel something soft turn the wire a couple of times to engage it in the cloth and try to pull ut out.

If it wont come out then the only solution is to remove the heater element to gain access

I have a GE front load washer model # whdvh626fww. it keeps making alot of noise when in the spin cycle and the belt keeps coming off. at first I thougt it was out of balance but that was not it . when I...

I have a different suggestion based on my washer's similar problem. If the black stuff is powdery and localized at the back of the unit, more than likely the culprit is the drum pulley itself is warped, causing the belt to chafe against the drum. The black powder is rubber residue from the scraping of belt on plastic. No need to replace unit. New belt and new pulley run about $70 each.
