My Black & Decker Shredder #BD-61 all of a sudden does not work. I used it tonight, but the next time I tried it does not work. The lights come on in both positions, but

On some shredders when both the forward and reverse LEDs are on it can indicate either a jam or a full receiver bag/ container (the area that the shredded paper is fed into).
Try the following steps:
  1. ) unplug the power
  2. ) open up the shredder (see 1 on diagram)
  3. ) empty out all the shredded paper (see 2 on diagram)
  4. ) check that the shredding jaws (both the entrance and exit) are clear of any shredded material (see 3 on diagram)
  5. ) put everything back together
  6. ) plug power cord back in
  7. ) force the shredder into reverse (see 4 on diagram)

Hopefully you should hear your shredder motor running. If it is switch it to automatic and try shredding again

How do I get top off to clear Paper Jam on Fellowes PS-12Cs

FELLOWES SHREDDER
In case of a paper jam , which may occur if the shredder is pushed beyond its specified capabilities, press the control switch to the off [O] position and empty the basket if full. Then:
1) Press and hold control switch in reverse [R] position and attempt to back paper out of shredder.
2) If shredder jams in reverse mode, press control switch to automatic [I] position and attempt to continue shredding operation.
3) If shredder jams again, alternate control switch slowly between reverse [R] and automatic [I] positions to attempt to move jammed paper completely through shredder.
If you are unable to clear the jam using this method, turn off and unplug the shredder; remove the wastebasket from cabinet and carefully remove any paper extending below the cutting cylinders; empty the wastebasket; insert wastebasket and repeat jam clearing procedure.

Only goes in reverse

Lube might not be necessary. Unplug the shredder from the outlet. Lift it off the shredded paper bin and turn it over. It is very possible that you have a jam. If this is the case, remove as much paper as you can making sure that you don't use anything that could do damage to the cutter'shredder blades. Once you have removed as much paper as possible, place the shredder back on the bin making sure that it is aligned properly. One way of making sure is to check for any space between the shredder and bin. If you do have space make sure that you replaced the shredder correctly on the bin; you may have to turn it around 180 degrees. When you get the shredder properly aligned, use the switch (DO NOT USE PAPER AT THIS TIME) to switch the shredder from Forward (shredding) to Reverse. You may have to do this a couple of times so be patient. At this point the shredder should be working in both directions. If so, move the switch to Auto or the center position and try a SINGLE sheet of paper. If it shreds that piece of paper, then you have fixed it. Be sure not to insert more paper than the shredder is rated for. Also, unless it specifically states that it can handle staples, credit cards, etc. do NOT let any of these items run through your shredder.
If none of the above works, buy a new one - :)

Paper has wrapped around the cutting blades and is packed in tight. How do I clean this?

    • 1 Unplug the paper shredder. Empty the shreds from the collection bin. Pull as much stuck material as possible from the top and bottom of the shredder blades with pliers.
    • 2 Place the paper shredder back on the collection bin base and plug the shredder back in. Rock the shredding direction back and forth between forward and reverse. Pull on the jammed pieces as the shredder shifts between directions.
    • 3 Run the shredder in reverse continuously once the paper jam is cleared. Make two passes across the cutting blades while drizzling synthetic shredder oil. Switch the direction to forward to run continuously for one minute.
    • 4 Lower two sheets of clean paper into the shredder. The paper removes excess oil, metal fragments and debris from the cutting blades. Blast the blades with compressed air when you notice a build-up of small paper scraps that may cause a jam.

The shredder was paper jammed

Hi,

Ensure the wastebasket is empty then move power switch to the REVERSE position. This will reverse the jammed paper out of the shredder. If shredder jams again, alternate control switch slowly between REVERSE and AUTO (l) positions to attempt to move jammed paper completely through the shredder. If the shredder jams in reverse mode, move the switch to AUTO (l), depress the manual forward button located on the center of the shredder head and allow to run for five seconds. If jam does not clear, move switch to REVERSE again and allow to run for five seconds.

Repeat this process until jam is cleared. If necessary, turn off shredder and use care to grasp the paper and carefully pull out to clear jam. Once cleared, move switch to AUTO (l) to continue shredding. The jamming may be happening because the cutting cylinder needs to be oiled.

Follow instructions to oil your shredder;

To keep your shredder in top condition, the cutting blades need to be oiled every so often (for frequency, please refer to your owner's manual). We recommend using Powershred® Lubricant or a vegetable-based oil (such as corn or canola) in a non-aerosol container with an extension nozzle.

Caution: Never use flammable synthetic oil, petroleum-based, or aerosol lubricants to oil the cutting blades. Some agents may combust, causing serious injury. NEVER USE WD40.

1. Depress and hold the reverse button down.
2. Put the tip of the oil bottle in the paper entry and make one or two sweeps the length of the entry while squeezing the oil bottle.
3. Move the power switch to Auto (I) position, or depress the manual forward button (depending on model of shredder) and allow the blades to run at least three seconds.
4. Move the power switch to Reverse (R) position and allow it to run for at least three seconds.
5. Repeat steps three and four above at least three time.

Regards.

Shredder will not start when paper is inserted. switch is on auto. This happened after a long session of shredding

Two possible problems;
  1. Teeth underneath lid are jammed; sometimes (especially after a long session) although the papers go through, debris builds up and can get caught in the teeth; to clear unplug and with tweezers or a tina flathead screwdriver, pull out shreds of paper still caught
  2. Motor is overheated; once cool, try it again (move switch to reverse to see if motor is still working). If motor is working, see Step 1 for a jam; some jams can be cleared by running it in reverse. Royal doesn't recommend "long" shredding sessions. My unit recommends sessions of 20 pages or less. If you try to overwork the shredder, it will overheat and in some cases, fry the motor.
I hope this helps answer your problem. Best of luck!
