If your dryer doesn't tumble, check these:

Belt
Motor
Door switch
Belt Dryers have a drive belt that turns the clothes drum. If the belt breaks, the drum stops rotating. Then you need to replace the belt, and often the idler pulley, because the pulley tends to wear out at the same time.

Click here for a belt installation diagram.

Motor If the dryer motor only hums when you press the Start button, the motor may be burned out. Here's how to test the dryer motor:

  • Remove the belt.

  • Check for obstructions in the blower fan housing.

  • Manually rotate the shaft of the motor.

If the motor is very stiff, or impossible to rotate manually, and the blower fan housing is clear, you need to replace the motor.

If the motor rotates freely, run the motor momentarily with the belt removed and the blower in place. If the motor runs fine with the belt removed, there may be a problem with the idler pulley or the clothes drum. Try to rotate the drum by hand. If it is very difficult to move, correct any problem with the rollers or pulley, and then reassemble the dryer and try it again.

If the motor hums but doesn't rotate on its own even with the belt removed--yet you can turn it freely by hand--you usually need to replace the motor or the motor start capacitor.

Door switch Your dryer can't operate at all if the door switch is defective. It's inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

We bought our Maytag Neptune dryer new about 3 years ago. It now has a cracked drum. It bumps every time it cycles around to the crack. Check your drum and make sure it's not broken. ....My last Maytag.

Noises

After 15 years of service I imagine it will be hard to get the parts you want to repair it.. Newer machines may not dry as quickly as the older types but they use less power to do so.. Consider a new machine for the sake of the economics of the problem

The dryer wont heat up the clothes dont get dry everything eles works on it the drum turns ok the timer works also it just wont dry the clothes

Hello,Sam

The usual reason a dryer will heat yet not dry the clothes is going to be a air flow problem. What ya need to check is for a blocked vent and or lint build up in the blower assambly.

By far though a leading cause of that on Maytag dryers is a broken blower wheel and therefore no warm air is being drawnthrough the clothes,to check that remove the front panel and the front drum support and in the lower left corner will be the blower asm. check to see if it moves free and doesnt seem to be attached to the motor shaft.

Maytag Performa PYE G2200 gas dryer, the dryer seems to turn on but the drum will not turn.

Based on the information provided, it sounds like a broken drum belt is at fault. Below is an illustration of the drum belt.

Drum makes noises as it turns

Your rollers may be bad. The drum rotates on three or four rollers. You would have to remove the front of the dryer and then pull the drum to see them. If you decide to replace them, it would be wise to get the felt kit that attaches to the drum as well. Good luck.

Maytag stackable gas drier does not start turning reliably

GE dryers tpically use polyethelene slide strips located at 4 o'clock and 8 o'clock. There is a special grease specified by GE to lower friction and increase the life of the slides, with the key feature being that the lube does not damage the poly slide strips. The strips are available in a kit or premounted on the steel bracket. If you are comfortable with drilling out the rivets that hold the strips in place, just get the strip set - about $ 18 a year ago. The premounted strips will be less aggravating with only a slightly shorter install time.

You'll find the strips mounted inside the front cover just below the door opening.

Screw on outside of drum

It should be there to hold the tumble vane secure to the drum.
Tighten it.
