Washer filled and when it got ready to agitate it made a loud noise and did not agitate and would not spin. I emptied the machine by pressing on the switch under the lid. I tried other sections on the dial to see if it would agitate or spin and it will not.

Can you help?

This sounds like the direct drive coupling between the motor and transmission. very common problem and not very expensive. look under the machine and and between the motor and transmission you will see a round rubber coupling and 2 plastic pieces one on either side; they all connect together to mate the motor and trans without a belt.

My 80 heavy duty series is making a loud noise after it is filled up. I wont agitate either.

What ya need to do is remove the cabinet and inspect the drive coupling. This washer does not have a belt. To transfer the power from the motor to the tranny the machine has a drive coupling.themobilian_2022.jpgthemobilian_2023.jpgthemobilian_2024.jpg

I have a service manual and videos how to repair these machines HERE.
Nothing is hard about repairing this washer.

Series 80 won't agitate or spin will pump out water

If the washer will fill and drain, but won't agitate or spin, you may have a broken motor coupling. The noise of the motor engaging, lack of agitation and ability to still drain are the usual symptoms. This is a common fail item with this model washer through normal wear and tear. Newer versions of the coupler are more resilient and resist breaking. The following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385250-replacing_motor_coupling_kenmore_top

The motor coupling is located between the drive motor and the transmission and takes the place of a drive belt. They do wear out and can break. The replacement part number is included in the link I provided and is an improved upgraded coupling that is more resilient. It should last longer. If you have questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

A replacement coupler can be purchased on line at appliancepartspros.com for about $11. Just use the part number in the link and "Search by Part Number" for your search criteria.

If you still have questions, please let me know. If the suggestions I have listed do not match your washer symptoms, please post back and elaborate more on what the washer is/is not doing. That way I can provide you with better assistance. I hope this information is helpful to you

Kenmore 80 Series will not fill up with water

if your washer will agitate when set to fill but not fill, then your pressure switch is bad.
also you may want to check and see if you are getting both hot and cold to your washer.

Broken Washer

it could be the direct drive coupling that connects the motor to the transmission. fill it up with water and see if it will agitate, if it will NOT agitate then it is a good chance that this is the problem. 0404472.jpg

worse case scenario is the transmission is bad, but this is unlikely.

Kenmore 80 series top loading washer won't agitate and is noisy

Sounds like u may have broken the coupler gear between the motor and transmission... the replaced the belt with these gears on this model... But should go fill & pumb water out and NOT spin Or agitate... IF these gears or broke or stripped... heavy loads like u  said would do this... recheck and see if wash will pumb water out But will NOT agitate or spin.. IF so the above is your problem  and is Not to hard to repair  or much money

Below is a pic with the motor remove the white piece in the middle is 1/2 of the gear system with a rubber piece in the middle (not there)  and another like gear on the motor
sounds like these gears may be broken or stripped on your washer
