Lexmark Wheelwriter 1000 Typewriter Logo
Anonymous Posted on Nov 24, 2010

Our Lexmark 1000 typewriter is not printing in the usual bold, black print we're used to just recently. We have installed a brand new plastic tape - #1380999 and see no improvement. It appears the striker is not hitting perpendicular to the Daisy wheel because the letters are grayish along the left side and along the very bottom of the letters typed. This is happening more than 50% of the time. Is there any adjustment for the striker unit to correct this problem or may it be something else that needs some tweaking??

Everything you have suggested, except the solenoid pad and selection plate have been tried and are working properly. I guess it's now off to the repair shop 40 miles away!! Thanks for your help. DEN

Make sure the platen (roller) is pushed down all the way. It must lock.
Also, see if the ribbon is feeding properly, characters should be evenly spaced on the ribbon. Other possible causes ..solenoid pad or selection plate, neither of which you can do yourself.

Brand new ink cartridge for Lexmark X3650. Error message to remove tape from cartridge. Tape has been removed. Print alignment prints in only black and same thing on cleaning process.

You can try to manually wipe the cartridge nozzles with a moistened soft cloth to clean it from dirts and clogs. You can also clean the nozzles using the Lexmark software on your computer. If you're using Windows, go to Programs/All Programs > Lexmark 3600-4600 Series folder > From the printer folder, click Maintenance > Clean Cartridges > Print. A page prints, forcing ink through the print cartridge nozzles to clean them.

10 pt printwheel printing 12 pt spacing

Some type styles do have thinner print than others. The pitch is automaticly selected when you change printwheels. You can measure the pitch by printing 12 letter "i" and putting a ruler up to it.
12 spaces per inch is elite and 10 is pica.

There are a few things that can cause this. Try code Q if this helps you may have a gummy print soleniod, if it dosen't the cap on the solinoid plunger may be cracked or the platen might not be fully seated ib the frames.
