As an alternate method, from a PC, you can install any OS package to a BB via this procedure:

Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. You can even use a different carriers OS package by simply inserting, between steps 1 and 2, the deletion, on your PC, of a file named VENDOR.XML. Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

Try this David. Gte on your computer and by using the blackberry desktop software back up your phone. Now after doing that get your phone and go to the options menu (The little wrench icon) and look where it says security and click on it. Now if you press the menu button it should give you the option of wiping your handset by doing this it will erase everything off your phone and it will be just like it was when you bought it. Try all the functions and if they work you have a virus if they do not work your phone is bad.

i turn on the phone to immediately find a pop up that says uncaught exception index 6>=6 then by its self it will go to white screen that says app error 523 with a reset link beneath it

just wipe it or reload with the new updated OS

well one u messed up a piece of wiring in ur phone so take out the battery and then unscrew the back if the red wire has scratches or has been cut in a way there is ur problem if thats it u will need to take back the phone

I had this same problem for months and couldnt figure out why. Then I just completed the latest update and it is now gone!

I had the same problem but I was able to find a way round it. I switched off the phone (blackberry storm), removed my sim, put the sim back after some minutes and put on the phone. Simple!! It worked.
