Ensure you use TCP/IP to print NOT AppleTalk and you should not have an issue.

Hi I have a second hand Tally Genicom 8008 and I can't get it to print anything. I've just downloaded a printer driver for it and am using it with an iMac with OS X Leopard. When I send something to...

First is worth checking the C (cyan) toner is not causing the problem with printing, the easiest way to do this is to print a configuration or test page via the menu on the printer to see if it will print. If the printer will print a page via its menu it should then be capable of printing from the computer system,

The Menu / Test Page can be printed in the following way;

  • Put the printer OFFLINE
  • Press the MENU/ENTER button
  • The display should read
  • Press the MENU/ENTER button
  • The display should read
  • Press the MENU/ENTER button
The printer should print a page, if it does not it sounds like the cyan toner is empty and is stopping the printer printing.

If the Menu / Test page prints ok this indicates the problem may be connectivity or driver related.

The first thing I would say is there are issues with printing to the the 8008 from Mac's particularly with the Intel processors.
There are also issues with versions 10.4 and over.

Some suggestions,

  1. Print using TCP/IP, ensure the printer has a IP Address set and also the port on the Mac is set to the same IP address. (dont use Apple Talk)
  2. Ensure you have the driver for the 8008 (not the IP8008) the IP8008 driver will not print to the 8008 and vice versa.
  3. Try printing from a simple application for example Sticky Notes, just to see if the problem may be down to the size of data files.

Printing only black in TallyGenicom 8108N

You can change the colour setting in the printer driver to Black Only, this means you will only print Black and White using only the black toner.
To make this change on Windows XP;

Open the Printers and Faxes Folder.
Right Click on the printer driver for the 8008.
Select Printing Preferences.
Click on the Color/Print Quality Tab.
In the Color Mode section select the B&W radio button.
Click on the APPLY button

This should change the pritner driver to print only black and white.

Tallygenicom 8008 not recognised in xp

I do not think there was a driver version 1.5 for the 8008 I believe only one version of driver was released for the 8008 for XP this was version 1.00
I think your search for later driver will be fruitless.TallyGenicom went Chapter 11 and are no more, I think thwy were taken over by dascom (www.dascom.com) who now sell Tally Dot Matrix printers.

I think your best option would be to check how the pritner is connected.
If connected via USB ensure the printer is correctly plugged in, make sure you have the USB cable connected to the USB port on the printer NOT the network port (it happens!!)
Plug the printer into a different USB port on the PC in case there is problem with the particular port.

Try a test page from the printer driver once you have installed it, see what errors you get.

If the printer is networked, ensure you can PING the IP Address, in the printer driver ADD A STANDARD TCP/IP port to print to the printers IP Address.

Post any errors or specific problems you see, how the pritner is connected we may be able to help some more.

Tally 8008 not printing mac OSX 10.5.6 leopard

Found a solution. We connected 8008 printer to imac running Tiger & we can now print via network on any of our emacs running Leopard. Not ideal but at least we can now use the printers. I would still love a dedicated driver to work direct but I suppose this will do for now.

Printer Password

If you reset the network card on the 8008 back to factory defaults it will reset the web password back to 'sysadm'
To reset factory defaults power the pritner on holding down CLEAR, keep CLEAR held down whilst you power the printer ON, keep the clear button held down untill you see RESETT on the display.

Resetting factory defaults will reset all network settings EXCEPT - IP, Sub net and Gateway address
