Gateway cx200x we were told to replace the backlight inventer- which I did, this did not fix the problem. The monitor is still black you can barley see the welcome screen come up and here the music.

MBR stands for Master Boot Record. It is an essential piece of information written on the Hard Drive that allows the program to load. If the MBR is corrupted the computer boot process cannot proceed. You have to repair it. On old systems with a floppy drive you would get a Win98 boot disk on a floppy, boot the system using the A:drive (floppy) then use a DOS command to refresh the Master Boot Record. If your system is using Windows XP tablet PC edition you might be able to use the installation disk to boot to the recovery console and use the command FIXBOOT or FIXMBR. You can also reinstall the Operating System. I hope this answer gave you some starting point to investigate further. There are on the web some software vendors who sell system recuperation CDs. Some may be free other you have to buy.

remove main battery by sliding battery lock to unlocked position, then slide battery release latch and slide battery out. There is DEFINITELY A PEN IN THE CX2620 stylii. I just replaced mine with a AAAA battery. The old one (which is a AAAA size, you can find these inside 9-volt batteries) had acid buildup on its positive end and that is why the pen went inactive. There is a lot of debate over this pen problem and I guarantee 90% of the time it's related to the battery. I can do a clean replace on anybody's CX2620 pen/stylii with a fresh battery for $10. I know there are a lot of dead stylii out there and people don't know what to do, took me a while to figure it out.

Are you sure that the lock button is completely in the unlocked position? If so, once this happened to me, and I removed the battery for about 5 minutes, then reconnected it and the computer powered up.
