Just fixed mine, only I did not have to take it all a part. Just tip it over and reached in thru the opening in the bottom. Took the clamp loose with a phillips screwdriver and pulled the rubber off that contains the filter. Stuck my hand in the opening and pushed up on the filter from the bottom on the rubber container. Out came the filter and I cleaned it and pushed back down inside until it was past the lip that held it in place. Works great, took about 10 mins., not bad for a woman, huh. Thanks for the info, could not have done without your diagram and information.
Unfortunately, getting to and cleaning the filter is no easy task. I will guide you as best I can...
1. First, make sure you have super glue on hand, the door seal is glued to the front panel, will have to be removed first then glued back in place. Using a sharp knife, carefully begin peeling the door seal and cutting the glue close to the cabinet. Do this slowly as to not damage the door seal. 2. Remove top cover. Screws are in the back 3. Remove control console. 4. Remove screws securing the door lock. Remove all front panel screws. Remove front panel. 5. Attached to the tub there is a large, fat drain hose, inside the hose you will find a filter....

Excellent suggestions all around, many thanks to the previous posts. The diagram is accurate and the related descriptions regarding the hole on the bottom are true. The only tools I used were a channel lock to unhook the supply hoses and drain line and a snub phillips screw driver to loosen the clamp on the large diameter drain hose that houses the coin trap. The repair itself really does not take much more than ten minutes. The real time is spent unhooking and rehooking the machine. Four suggestions: 1. Use a wet dry vac to **** out any remaining water first. I even tipped the machine a bit to try and get as much water out as possible. 2. Lay down lots of towells, you won't **** out all the water with a vacuum. 3. Lay the washer on its side so as not to damage the door and control knob 4. Unplug the W/D first!!!.
Hanseren's solution of tipping the machine on its side and accessing the coin trap worked perfectly. The coin trap is a small plastic cup that sits in the bellows (the accordian tube). I loosened the metal o-ring and gently pulled the tube from the connection to access the trap, which was filled with pet hair and other disgusting gunk. Make sure to have a lot of towels and before sure to unplug the machine from the ac outlet. I disconnected the water supply too. Thanks Hanseren; you saved me the time and expense of a service call. BTW, I will not be buying another Frigidaire product. What a moronic design for a coin trap!
You don't have to take off the front! Just come up through the bottom and clean the filter. It looks like the bottom was designed to be an access point for the filter and pump. :) Mine was clogged with loose change and a plastic tag and masses of lint.
This worked for me to fix the drainage problem (I just bought the machine and in my excitement forgot to take the manual out of the tub before washing Oops! Made paper mache in the drain!) But once we set it back upright it won't start and says E31. Did anyone else have this problem?
After following advice, were able to clear filter and get back to doing laundry. now we have leaking. husband tightened hose clamps, leaking lessened but didn't stop. Any ideas?
I'm having the same problem. Did you find out the problem. On mine the tub tube has a notch in it. It looks like it is factory. I think there is a special way to put the hose on.I'm having the same problem. Did you find out the problem. On mine the tub tube has a notch in it. It looks like it is factory. We contacted technical support and they sent an expert who unfortunately did nothing since at that very instance the machine decided to work just fine, but not a day passed when it was doing the same thing- E20. My husband an I were upset, we had to wait a week until they came by the first time and we were not going to wait a day more. My husband googled at he found this page and it was so helpful, we did exactly what was illustrated and the coins were everywhere and other things that were not coins such as intimate attire, my husband and I laughed and said thank God we got to this and not a repairman, I would have been so embarrassed. Thanks for your assistance.

Do you have a Frigidaire washer? Frigidaire uses the E20 code to indicate that the pump can't remove the water from the machine.
This could be a problem with the pump but is more likely to be a blockage in the coin (and other debris) trap. Unplug the washer. If your washer has an access panel, remove the two screws and pull off the panel. Otherwise remove the entire front or back panel or access the pump from the bottom of the washer. Get a bucket ready and remove the two hoses that connect to the pump. (These are held on by hose clamps.) Pour any water from the hoses into the bucket and catch any water from the pump itself. Check the trap on the discharge hose for foreign objects and remove them. Look around the pump, the impeller and motor and remove foreign objects from there as well. (Usually the items are things that were left in a pocket or the underwire from a bra.)
Reconnect the hoses and close the panel of the washer. Plug the unit back in and set it to the drain and spin cycle. See if the error has been cleared.
If the error persists, then there is a problem with the pump system or sensor.
This is a blocked drain error code (E20) which
can be due
to a clogged/kinked drain hose, blocked drain filter/coin trap, or a
broken drain pump. The link below provides the detailed troubleshooting
procedure of this error code. In addition, replace the drain pump after
having found no problem with the drain hose, cleaned the filter, and
checked the drain pump impeller but the drain pump just hums, buzzes or whirs. Error Code E20 on Frigidaire Front Load Washing Machines
The machine, based on the error code, is made by Frigidaire for Kenmore. Error code E20 pertains to a slow or no drain problem which can be due to a clogged/kinked drain hose, blocked drain filter/coin trap, or a broken drain pump. The link below provides the detailed troubleshooting procedure of this error code.
you need to check the drain pump once you have removed all the water. remove all the hoses that go to and from the pump and look for any obstructions.make sure to take the hose off the bottom of the tub and check the coin trap.
Error code e20 means a clogged drain pump. This might have happenned due to small clips, pins, coins, etc being stuck in the pump. Please note that error e20 can also occur when the drain pump is not pumping fast enough or when the pump fails. To fix the issue you'll need to check the drain pump.
Remove the 2 screws from the bottom of the front access panel, it will come off. Now check for the pump on the right side and remove hoses from it. Remove pump from machine then clean the debris from the pump. Make sure that you have a container to collect water nearby when you are removing hoses from the pump, as ther would be a lot of water. Please post back for any further assistance.
hello mike means the coin trap is clogged. Here are the steps to fix the problem.
1. Unplug the unit. 2. Remove the bottom front access panel. There are two screws one on right and one on the left towards the bottom of the front panel. 3. Now that the panel is removed look inside on the bottom right hand side there is a black looking accordion thing. This is the coin trap. 4. Clean the drum out with as much water as possible and have towels ready. The next step you will have the remaining water come out. 5. At the top of the coin trap where it is attached to the drum is a silver spring with a silver screw. Loosen the screw and wiggle the coin trap down from the drum. 5. Reach inside the coin trap and clean what is inside of it out. 6. Put the unit back together following the same steps backwards
error code E20 means that the coin trap/drain pump hose needs cleaned out.It can be done by the owner with a friend helping.
1. Unplug the unit. 2. Tilt the unit up to where the front feet are in the air and the back feet are still on the ground. Please make sure the unit is propped up safely.Or you can lay the unit on its back side. 3. Now that the unit is propped up look inside the hole on the bottom of the unit - on the bottom right hand side there is a black looking accordion thing.
Of course, if your washer is setting on top a drawer/pedestal then you will need to take out the screws that connect the two and then you can lay the washer down on its back onto the pedestal
Other consumers have reported this error message and found it relates to your "Coin trap assembly" being blocked, therefore not allowing all the water to pump out. The suggestion out there is to remove the front access panel, and remove the clamp that connects this trap assembly to the pump and clean it out.
Any E20 code means your washer doesn't drain. More than likely there is a screw, nail, coin, bobby pin, etc locking up your pump and causing it not to drain. Keep in mind that your washer has a 1 yr warranty but some service companys will charge for this kind of repair because it is not technically covered under warranty.
