It's not likely your nephew has swapped drives. Unless the two computers were the same or very close models, his disk would not have the same information on it as the one from your computer. You said his was older and yours newer; they might not even have the same versions of Windows installed. If the hard drives were switched, neither computer would start up properly then. If your computer is running correctly, it should still have the original drive.
You can check the disk size either by opening the cover on the bottom and looking at the label, or getting the disk information from Windows when the computer is operating. When you know the size of the drive in your computer, you can check that it is the one that belongs there. Unless you removed it, HP puts a sticker on each computer telling what size drive and the amount of memory is in it.
