The upper and lower shell snap together. I removed screws from the bottom and could not separate the shell. I them unscrewed the metal shroud from the inside and removed it. It is a tight fit. You will see the snaps inside. I pushed on a couple of the snaps and the shell came apart. I am sure you will be able to address your issue from there. I am trying to find out why the heating element won't work on my machine.

How do you get the metal shroud out, it seems to be in there very tight ?

This was very helpful. My husband just replaced my belt on my bread machine. So happy not to have to throw it away.

The belt is not easy to access. After the screws are removed from underneath, the bolts inside the baking area need to be removed, then the plastic case can lift off though it may be helpful to remove the metal shroud from inside the baking area to access the snaps connecting the two plastic parts. Then, the switch panel is connected to the circuit board by a flat cable and this prevents the top plastic housing from coming off. I kept it attached and just worked around it but it could be removed. then the metal plate on the bottom has a few screws holding it to the bottom plastic piece. once those are removed, the belt can be accessed. it's a hassle.

How to open the bottom of the breadmaker?

For Sunbeam 5891, you need a generic High Torque Synchronous Timing belt that is coded as: S3M537 and 6 MM Wide. It's 537 MM Long with 179 teeth, each set 3MM apart. Google S3M537 (or S3M 537) or consider one of the following:

http://www.newenglandbelting.com/timingbelts/S3M-pitch_TimingBelts.pdf

www.jdv.belts.com (1-800-989-0162); or

http://www.beltfrog.com/part/106006118/Belt-60-S3M-537-Bando

to satisfy this need.

I did the research for a new belt but it turned out that the central hub of the drive gear had not been fully assembled and was coming apart.

These synchronized drive belts have many other applications besides bread machine, like conveyors, photocopiers, printers, and shaping and milling machines. I think the 10 MM wide might fit, but the original was only 6 MM wide. I see that they're also offered in 10, 15 and 20 MM, so look for the 6 MM.

Sumedsa06Where can I buy a BELT for my Sunbeam bread machine model 5891?

This Sunbeam model's belt is considered unservicable by the distributor. I cannot, by law, consult you in any other way regarding this matter. 5891's are considered in the breadmaker world as low-end/disposable models.

Oster/Sunbeam/JardenConsumerSolutions will tell you the same.

Sorry for the bad news. Hope this helps.
