Found my 'lost' S6, with its wires and docking station. No installation disk, though. The desktop that it was installed on is Loooooong gone. Is there a source for the interfacing software so that I can use this with my laptop?

If you're using Windows Vista or 7, it's likely that drivers hadn't been updated for your camera. But the most error free way to download photos from your camera is to use an inexpensive USB card reader. Please see this link.

Probably would have worked, but couldn't find 'scan' button mentioned on the download instructions. Thanks anyway.

No scan button is needed with a USB card reader. You just remove the card from your camera and insert it into the reader. Your computer then sees the card as a drive that you can then just copy and paste your photos onto your hard drive.

How can Western Digital hard disk drives be recognized by third party USB external docking stations?

The format on a disk, will not be relevant of recognition via an USB connector. To connect a drive via USB, the computer must have the correct driver for the hardware you are connecting. Be sure you connect the HD coerce to the external harness and make sure it is supplied with the correct voltages.
When you connect a working system on the USB connector and the drive does not have a format, the computer will see that and ask you if it should format the drive.

How to install USB3.0 eSATA 2.5"/3.5" horizonatal mobile HDD Docking station?

Hi

Once you have the drive installed in the docking station you will need to install the drivers on the host PC, if your drive is not showing up in my computer, then either the drive is faulty, the docking station is faulty or the drivers have not installed correctly.

1 listen to the drive can you hear clicking noises from the drive, or is there any activity at all from the drive if not then the drive is either not sat in the holder correctly so is not getting power. or if it seated ok then the drive has gone faulty.

2. If the Docking Station is faulty return it and get it replaced

3 Remove and reinstall the drivers.

DISK BOOT FAILURE NO hdd FOUND

This looks like the HDD has gone faulty or the BIOS boot order has changed. Most likely is the hard drive has failed though.
Replace the drive with a new one & re-install.

Updated laptop to windows 7....need updated software for targus acp50

The Targus ACP50US Docking Station does not seem to have an updated driver for Windows 7. You can attempt to install the docking station using the driver found at this link but that may not work as it is only meant to be used for Windows 2000, XP, and Vista. I'm sorry but if that driver does not work, the docking station will not work until there is a new driver for Windows 7.

I got here a 160GB samsung HD161GJ hard disk which can be detected in bios and also found as ''working properly'' in device manager. However, the problem is the drive is not visible in windows explorer. I...

Buy a HHD docking station that you can drop your SATA hard disk drive into. you plug the Docking Station into an avalable usb port.
If you can't use the hard disk with this docking station the disk is bad.
This works about 99% of the time, great method for using or recovering old files (pictures, files) off of used hard drives.
