I've had friends with the E74 error, and unfortunately it is not covered under the same extended warranty as the red ring of death. However, if you got your Xbox in the last year or so, it should still be covered under the factory warranty, so call up Microsoft Support. Actually, call Microsoft Support anyway, sometimes the warranty information gets lost in the system.
So, providing you can't get satisfaction from their support line, I did come across two videos on youtube.com that showed different ways of "fixing" it. Just so you know, I have absolutely no ways of testing them out and have no way of determining if they will damage your Xbox further. However, if you don't have a warranty and Microsoft won't fix it, it's kinda useless anyway(my buddy used his as a target on the shooting range). The first one shows a way that shouldn't permanently damage the xbox:
And the second one will definitely work, but will kill your xbox after doing it more than a few times. My friend used this trick, and kept his 360 on 24/7 until it quit on him.
An E74 error is indicated when the lower-right quadrant of the ring
indicator flashes red and displays an error message in multiple
languages: "System Error. Contact Xbox Customer Support", with the code
E74 at the bottom . The error is caused when there's a video problem,
because the Xbox 360's hardware scaler chip is damaged.
Microsoft covers repairs for the E74 error for a period of three (3)
years from the original purchase date of the console. If you are outside
the initial three-year warranty period, you can still receive console
repair service from Microsoft for a fee for the E74 error. For more
information about the E74 warranty extension, see the following
article:

An E74 error is when the lower-right quadrant of the ring piece indicator flashes red and displays an error message in multiple languages: "E74 System Error. Contact Xbox Customer Support". The error is caused when there's a video problem with the Xbox's hardware scaler chip being damaged. As of April 14, 2009, the E74 error is now covered by the three-year extended warranty.
The E74 malfunction is a problem believed to be associated with the
system's video output cables and/or hardware scaler chip. The problem
involves unusual screen patterns, the appearance of an on-screen error
message, and finally a flashing red light in the lower right quadrant
of the power ring. When a system suffers from the failure the on-screen
message reads "E74 System Error. Contact Xbox Customer Support."
You could send it in to Microsoft of you can follow the steps as outlined in this You Tube video.
E74 is the error code, call xbox (1800-4MY-XBOX) and inform them of this error.
If you have voided your warranty, you will have to resort to buying a new 360 or a new motherboard.
E74 is an AV cable error/ GPU hardware failure error. If you left your system on all night and all day there is a very good chance you overheated it. If you have a warranty i would use it If not call MS to see if there Manufacturing warranty will cover it. Just tell them that you have E74 error and then youll have to give them the S/N off the Xbox and they will let you know if it will cost you anything. You can look up this error on
