On my gas appliances, either there is a pilot light or the ignitor sparks (like a car spark plug) or glows after the gas valve opens. The ignitor does not heat up.
I've had some gas appliances that have had the valve stick. (On an oven, we tested this by tapping on the valve when the unit should have called for gas. This confirmed that the valve was bad and not the thermostat.)
I hope this helps.

The dryer will not heat i check the vent to make sure no upstruction and open the back to make sure no wire was lose. where will the fuse be kenmore model 76722697 serial No. 0702383

There is a flame sensor on the side of the flame housing. Jump the 2 wires out and see if the ignitor glows then. If so you need a flame sensor.

if ignitor is glowing suspect coils on valve assembly if not could be flame sensor on side of burner housing short wires together to find out last suspect thermal fuse located on blower housing ..small white object with 2 wires

On the maytag gas dryer there can be a couple of problems.
1) there is a safty switch on the modor start switch that has to close befor the gas can come on.
2) There are safty coiles on top of the gas valve. Sometimes one of these may be burnt out. You have to check the resistance of each coil.
3) There is a light sencor on top of the burner funnel( a little black box with two wires comming out of it.) This can malfunction some times.
Not always an easy solution. Lots to check.
