Try a reset. Start by unplugging for 1 minute, then plug back in & if still won't restart try the following. If none of the following work, you will need a technician.

Why is my 42" dlp tv turns itself off after awhile?

the power supply is not working fine. your tv needs preventive service so that semiconductor, diodes and capacitors are changed on the power supply before it switches off completely on its own.
do it fast

TV acts like it is turning on then shuts off then repeat, repeat

When my lamp died the bulb literally exploded. That may be what you heard. Have you check the lamp? If the lamp is ok, the lamp's ballast or power supply might have blown.

No picture and no sound

Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty.

JVC tv i'art blinking timer

It is protecting you and itself with high probability.
Power supplies in modern electronic devices are designed to cycle if there is a fault in circuitry they are servicing and because of the design, also will not turn on completely if they are failing.

The older style of power supply was 'dumb' and unable to do this so could cause fires if the failure wasn't teh 'right' kind to blow the main fuse.

I agree with the manual; this is a job for a tech.
