The volume goes up automatically, then after a few minutes it goes down automatically and the volume bar stays on screen. The remote becomes inactive. You can turn volume up via the TV buttons, but then the volume goes down again when you take your fingers off.

Most of the time it is the touch button assembly on the tv. The Volume down touch button switch is sticking.
I hope this helps,

On my sceptre tv, the volume continues going up or down on its own shortly after changing via the remote. I found that if I press the Mute button 2x (off then on again) after setting the volume it will stay put. The mute button stops it from changing on it's own. Its only a work-around but maybe it will help others.

Toshiba (model 19av500U) volume goes up and down automatically

It may be the remote itself and not the tv, have you tried purchasing an inexpensive universal remote?

Toshiba (Model : 36A43) - volume goes down automatically

I am having same problem on 32 inch same problem. After playing with board with no results,I tried front buttons and found that if I held the power button in ever so slighItly as not to turn it off, it fixed problem which is the micro on/off switch, I removed the switch and used the remote and everything is back to normal, I am about to insall a used micro switch after I finish typing this but I am sure this will clear up volume problen and menu going crazy problem if not I will just leave micro switch out and use the remote, and I will get back to this board only if that micro switch still causes the problem, so if I don't post in next hour the problem is fixed and I'm more than glad to help.

I have a philips Matchline tv (29pt6361/79r) the tv works fine except it automatically turns the volume down without any buttons on the remote or tv being pushed

well depends on how far it turns the volume down as to what the cause is and if the volume bar on screen display comes on when the vol. goes down. if it just goes down a little you probably have the "smart sound" setting turned on in the audio menu turn it off and see if prob. goes away. if the vol. bar comes on the screen whenever the vol. goes down the you most likely have a bad button on your front panel and it doesn't have to be the vol. down button. it you think it is the button it would need solder work to be changed most likely shop job.

How can i get my tv to stop automatically changing to menu screen?

slapshot,
What you have there could be one of three possibilities. Micro, eprom or tact switches... Tact switches are the small contact switches behind the buttons you depress to turn the volume up and down or change the channel. Sometimes these small switches can become contaminated or breakdown due to corrosion. What we call in the industry a windex syndrom, because the older crts on some models had the swiches exposed just below the lower ridge of the cry where when cleaning the screen windex could drip down onto the switch and cause the corrosion to begin.
Eprom is another likely suspect. This Ic is responsible for storing an array of information including customer settings and other logics convert what the eprom stores into electronic pulses for any number of fuctions. For example press the volume down on your Tv and the eprom has the information to show you the volume bar, the level the volume bar was last set at and the increments at which you are reducing it realtime.
The Micro is another possibility. It acts like a traffic cop engaging various circuits to do or not do something according to a preset list of conditions. Timers, looking at a particular input or yes even bringing up the menu is tasked through the micro controller Ic or micro for short.
The fact that you can eventually get the unit to operate suggests that something in the logic circuit is failing and will in all likelyhood continue to do so until eventually it doesn't work at all...

Strange volume troubles

The tact switches on the front of the unit are going bad, need to replace them internally.

Volume Issues with Television

toshiba 35a44 I had in shop would not turn on initially, when Qa01 was replaced I was able to turn tv on, but after a couple of minutes volume went all the way down, vol display bar on screen and power and menu keys would not work, remote control function did not mater. after replacement of QA02 mpu no results. desoldered volume down and up keys and sprayed chassis with flux remover on both sides of chassis and sumerged vol keys in alcohol solutions for 10 minutes, restored them in chassis and the problem was corrected. QA01 and QA02 did not had to be replaced there was a contaminant problem on solder flux that was causing the problem. kbzon
