Hi honeyrauniar
The alarm goes off when the pedometer is pulled away from the pin (at one end) to which the strap is attached. Just push the pin back in and it stops the alarm!

I walk a lot so have bought a Tanita pedometer PD-724.Cannot seem to set stride length Help, Iam 78

That's okay Dorothy ...

I won't hold your youth & in-experience against you.
(Walk a lot: Good girl!)

Tried (really) looking it up... (below) 3 axes pedometer
http://www.tanita.com/es/pd724gl/

Seems 2 B a serious brain teaser. .. but if you have the numbers... weight and stride length.. you just advance to those settings with your mode control.

The only ISSUE I can imagine: you could have your stride length... in CENTIMETERS (METRIC)... So if your stride is
30 inches... that equals 76.2 CM (centimeters).

Aaaand...
if you underestimate your stride a little... It will make you feel like you accomplished more... (and who's to tell).

You go girl...

Comment me back if that didn't do it for you.

My Tanita PD-724 keeps resetting to zero during the day and also resetting the clock at random times

The same thing has been happening for me. I don't have a tried and tested solution, but I'm suspecting that it's when I keep the pedometer in the same pocket as my mobile phone. I'll make sure I don't do that and report back if it still resets.

Hello, my new device Tanita BC 532 measure weight and body fat%, but no reaction when I try to press rest of the featured keys. I use the description attached, and the weigth and fat% showes alternly on...

My Tanita BC-532 also developed this fault. It seems to be common with a number of the models! I asked Tanita and over a number of emails this is what they said:

"not to place it in wet rooms and remove the batteries if stored for a longer time period."

When I said it was in a bathroom (isn't that where everyone keeps their scales) NOT a wet room - they said any bathroom is classed as a wetroom!
When I said how can you tell if the batteries are just about to run out (that's what seems to trigger the fault) I had no reply; and when I asked how long is a "long period of time" - 2 weeks/ 2 months (we used to use ours every 1-2 weeks) again no reply to this question.

Now out of warranty after 5 years Tanita suggested it I didn't follow either of these instructions above (in the manual, but not defined) then I only have myself to blame. They did suggest one remedy was to:

"1.Take out the batteries.

2.Make a short-circuit between (+) and (-)with a piece of wire.

3.Put the batteries back and try it out.

If that doesn't work, you simply have to discard it. "

Personally I don't think this is satisfactory and I won't buy Tanita again. Scales should last much longer. They should make any warnings clearly defined - especially based on the number of times this happens according to reports from users on internet.

It seems this is a well known fault and I would thus suggest scales are not fit for purpose over longer term. Tanita should own up to this and stop avoiding their responsibilities.

Should you not keep in the bathroom, use every few days, and replace batteries before they get too low - then these scales are great (well they were for the first 5 years!)

Lost the directions need to know how to set all the buttons

Hi,
Here see if this helps....

http://www.gaiam.com/product/pedometer+fitness+kit+-+intermediate+level.do

  • Press S5 (Up/Mode) to toggle between metric / imperial.
  • Press S3 (Set) to select.

  • Basic operation buttons:
    Time mode

  • Measuring your own stride:
  • An individual's stride may vary in length. Input the appropriate length by measuring the distance of 10 steps and dividing by 10 to get your own stride length.

  • How to adjust:
    Motion sensitivity slide switch
  • Attach the unit correctly and walk 100 steps. If the reading is 105 steps or more, slide the Motion sensitivity switch to the left. If the reading is 95 steps or less, slide the motion sensitivity switch to the right.

  • How to wear your pedometer:
  • Your pedometer clips easily and snugly to either side of the hip portion of your pants or shorts. For best results, keep the unit in line with the crease line of your pants.
  • The pedometer must be directly perpendicular to the ground. The pedometer needs to be at a 60 degree angle to the ground. Dragging your feet, walking with sandals or uneven footsteps in a crowded area can affect the accuracy.
  • The pedometer only works when walking, jogging, or walking up/down stairs.

  • How to use the panic alarm:
  • Pull out the panic alarm pin S7 (Panic Alarm) from the unit to trigger the alarm.
  • Press and hold S1 (RES) to stop sound temporarily.
  • Insert the panic alarm pin back into the unit to stop the alarm instantly.

  • Battery replacement:
Panic alarm and LED Torch battery:
  • Open the battery door by unscrewing the secure screw.
  • Flip out the exhausted battery and replace with two new *CR2016 (3V) batteries. Make sure the polarity is correct. Close battery door and fasten the screws.
