My PC is connected to this modem/router and works fine. All the laptops in the house show that they are connected but I can't get any websites on any of them. Also, when I connect the laptop with an ethernet cord, they still show connected but I can't access any websites.

Log in on your router manager http://192.168.x.x and enable DHCP.DHCP provides an automated way to distribute and update IP addresses and other configuration information on a network. A DHCP server provides this information to a DHCP client through the exchange of a series of messages, known as the DHCP conversation or the DHCP transaction. If the DHCP server and DHCP clients are located on different sub-nets, a DHCP relay agent is used to facilitate the conversation.

  1. Connect to your router (by typing 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 into the URL bar) and log in. Check your user manual or documentation if you do not know the log-in credientials.

This is optional, and is totally dependant on personal preference. In this picture, the maximum number of DHCP clients is 3. You may need to increase this number according to how many people will need a dynamic IP address on your network. Once the max is reached, no one else can get an address until one expires!

SOURCE: Connecting Laptop wireless and Desktop wired to the router

Do you need to see the desktop or just share folders from each other? If the latter then you need to do the following:

Use Windows Explorer and select a folder you want to share. Right click and select sharing and security.

On the sharing tab click on Share this folder. Enter a share name ( I like to enter the PC name _folder name; Rick1_Downloads)

Click on Permissions. If your ok with everyone using the PC's and Laptops having access then highlight Everyone and click on Full Control.

Do this on each PC and Laptop.

That should be it or darned near close.

Hello, I have Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop and wireless Internet doesn't connect. I see the wifi light is ON and I see in Internet connection it shows my profile as connected. But if i browse internet does...

Please connect your computer directly to your DSL / Cable modem and check if your internet is working fine, if not turn off your modem and restart after a minute or two.

Now check again if the internet is working by directly connecting your laptop to your modem. if it is not working, contact ISP. if it is working, turn on your router and check if your wireless connection is working.

If you wireless connection is still not working, please check if you have plugged the modem to the internet / WAN port behind your router.

Also try logging to your router page (refer to manual for procedure) and try changing the wireless channel.

Hi, I'm an idiot! PLEASE HELP

you may be suffering from mixed Cat 5 and Cat 6 cabling.
The wiring is slightly different and they don't work well when mixed in routers and modems etc. One or the other will work , but when they're mixed it'll do what you have going on here...

I would recommend wiring everything with cat 6 ethernet cabling. Look on your cable and you will find the labeling on the outer casing.

Have 6212-13-200 router for my high speed internet cable coming into house. Can connect to the internet with internet explorer. I can connect to a website but when I have to go further in the website I get...

Definitely... it could be anything from your cable modem on up. I would call my provider and let them figure it out, but you can try a couple of continuous pings on a quick responding website like google. If you have a wireless device between you and your modem, cut out the middleman and go straight through the modem. If your problems persist give your provider a call.

Router won't connect to the internet

I managed to figure it out. I had to clone the MAC address to get the router to connect to the Internet.

I still have another problem though, my laptop still won't connect to the router. I'm using Vista, is this a possible network adapter issue? My laptop is fine at connecting to other wireless networks round my friend's houses/libraries...

No connection

looks like a common issue on routers and cable modem, well a little common.

the power comming fromt he modem (information pass) is too much for the internet port on the router to handle that it quits if the surge from the modem comes.

here is what you do:

get a longer ethernet cable to connect your modem and the router, may 10-15 feet ethernet cable, put it in a coil and tie a knot in the middle, just look at the picture below.

once this is done, you may access the router's page again and make sure that the MAC clone feature is enabled and perform a power cycle. power down the modem and the router, power up the modem first, wait for around a minute or until the ONLINE light is steady and then turn the router on. after that try your connection on the router.
