We have a JVC camera and can put the videos on to the camera to the PC but each time we want to burn the videos to an existing DVD we can't seem to add anything - we have 10 different DVD's now with about 20 minutes of video on each one! Why do we only get offered to erase each disc each time when burning new videos.
Is there no way to just add the videos. It seems such a waste and it woudl be nice to have just one DVD to play on the TV of all this years recordings?
Can you not save up a couple of hours worth of recordings on the camera somewhere and then burn them all on at one time?

Assuming that your camera is not equipped to interface directly with your PC, here are the steps to take to get your videos from VHS to DVD:
- Purchase a video capture device.
A cursory websearch garnered once for $50.00 here:

- After setting the device up, use the bundled software to convert the video file into DVD format and then burn to disc, using your favorite burnig software. Be sure that it is burning in the VIDEO_TS/AUDIO_TS format and not just copying the .avi to the DVD.
If you would like for me to elaborate on anyt of these instructions, please don't hesitate to contact me directly at [email protected]. Good luck and, again, let me know if there's anything else I can do. I think you'll be just fine though as this process is fairly straightforward...just time-consuming.

Actually if you just change the .MOD endings to a .MPG it should work just try it on a file you have copied but keep the original intact. I also had the same problem with the JVC piece of junk I bought. This is what I found out on the net. It works but I don't know if there is and loss in the process

Manufacturer fault with original CCD. My camera was fixed for free, but the free fix may be expired ? Check with JVC Service Center.

Get a 4-pin Firewire cable. Plugs in just below power plug slot. What plug you need on the other end depends on your computer. You can get Firewires in 4 to 4 pin; 4 to 6 pin, and 4 pin to USB. My laptop is configured to take a 4 or 6 pin Firewire but my desktop only has USB. I transfered using 4 to 4 pin and it worked great. No drivers, no discs needed...at least with Vista. As soon as I plugged in the camera, I was asked to whether I wanted to transfer from biginning of tape or at currenty location. I chose from the beginning and the camera automatically rewound and strated to transfer to the PC. I don't know if it would work same way with 4-wire Firewire to USB but assume it would. Cables around $35 but I purchased at Circuit City for the going out of business discount. I also bought some SD cards so I can take snapshots and transfer them too for print.
Get a firewire and you should be fine.
