I have a HP 5550 SCANNER.And i bought a hp laptop with windows 7. but the scanner doesnt support windows 7. what can i do??

The basic driver for Vista may work. http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=77362&lang=en&cc=us&taskId=135&prodTypeId=15179&prodSeriesId=77360 (select the appropriate version 32-bit or 64-bit)

Alternatively, try connecting the scanner to the computer and loading a generic WIA driver from the OS.

In either case, if they work, you will not be able to use the buttons on the scanner to launch scans. Instead use Windows Fax and Scan (New Scan) or Paint (File > Import from Camera or Scanner) to acquire scans. (You can also acquire scans in Photo Gallery if you download and install that software from Microsoft. Alternatively, you can buy a third-party software for scanning and OCR.)

I hope this helps.

(I've gotten other older scanners to work with basic drivers; it's worth the shot even without the full-featured software.)

Can I get the hp 4200c flatbed scanner to work on a windows 7-64 bit PC?

There doesn't seem to be one:

http://www.zdnetasia.com/downloads/pc/swinfo/0,39043052,50002418r-39502891s,00.htm
HP says they will not even provide a driver update for Vista.
You can try this procedure for VISTA: http://tinyurl.com/yhqzl55 (This is a download link.)

Windows vista says no to oldschool

After Vista servicepack1, your HP4200C Scanjet should work if you use the latest drivers from sj655en.exe downloaded from HP.com.
