Old Magellan GPS 300 is unable to find satellites after EZ start (relocated to another region and device was not operated for quite a while). Had similar problem in the past and recall there was a combination of buttons to press which resulted in some kind of 'complete reset' - What is that keys combination?

    Try leaving the batteries out overnight. Install batteries, turn unit on and enter your location and time BUT DON'T change the date. Mine was April 4,1998 as default. It pcked up all seven satellites in 20 minutes.

This is what I did to get mine going again. If your unit has lost all memory then you might find it tough to get it back online. It takes sometimes many many many hours

1. power off
2. press the power button;
3. immediately press and hold the right arrow button down until you see "delete memory" message
4. release the right arrow button;
5. select YES
6. press ENTER;
7. reinitialize the unit (EZSETUP)
8. Set the time to your local time (with no daylight savings)
9. Set the date to 7169 days from todays date. (if today's date is 1 Jan 2018 then set the date to 17 May 1998 (Yep its so old it has a Y2K bug)

It should take a few hours to pick up a pos

If I am correct you can put it on the sd card
There should be a slot for the card on the unit .
also you can check on their web page .

SOURCE: Magellan GPS Pioneer will not hold onto satellite signal

I had the same problem. Found this link

http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=144134

As suggested at the end of the above thread I left my unit outside for a couple of hours and it suddenly sprang into life. Now it reliably gets a fix in 2 to 3 minutes when I switch it on.

My theory is that because it is only a 2 channel unit it takes hours to acquire a fix when the memory is blank.

The manual says it will keep it's memory for a month without batteries.

So if you leave the batteries out for more than a month, or move it more than 250 miles and then switch it on expect it to take a while to first fix.

Otherwise it's a nice little unit.

did you check off for daylight saving time?

its in the time zone settings..make sure the magellan is acquiring the satellites (it it displaying your location...if it is, its probably because the daylight savings time isnt checked

if thats not the problem, let me know and ill help you further.

SD Card for magellan 300,Can I use any card on it? I've just got it as a gift without the card. Is there any website where to buy it?

The Magellan Roadmate 300 and 300R both require preloaded map data to be supplied from an SD card. You can't just pop any card into the slot and get it working. It requires a card of 2GB or less loaded with Magellan mapping software. Magellan provides nationwide maps and regional maps. The 300R was a regional unit while the 300 included a national basemap.

If you have a model 300, you can still use the highway basemap to get routing from city to city but you will not have detailed address routing at the residential street level unless you insert an SD card with Magellan software. If you have a 300R model, the unit will be useless without the Magellan software on an SD card.

Magellan doesn't seem to offer much software support for this unit any more and the maps are difficult to find.

Magellan Triton 300 GPS handheld

This problem is caused by two possible problems. First go the MENU>>VIEW>>SETTINGS>>MEMORY and CLEAR YOUR MEMORY. If does not work and the unit is NOT seeing any satellites in the satellite screen, then you most likely have a defective GPS+ANT. Unfortunately, this is a part of the motherboard and cannot be repaired.

Loading New Map

I don't know if this is much of a solution, but from what I understand from my extensive research on this product (I bought one online and have been trying to get updated maps), Magellan no longer supports this unit. I looked on their website to confirm, and on the "Scheduled Map Updates" list, the Magellan 300 has no further updates available. Apparently, this has been the case for the last few years.

Roadmate 800 quits receiving satellites on startup

There are various reasons this could be happening. To start eliminating the main causes, go to the Magellan site and create a profile for yourself. You will then be able to download the latest firmware update and the newest maps. This will fix connectivity issues and at the same time give you the latest and greatest of what your device has to offer.Also, if your windshield has the blueish.silver covering over it from the factory, this can inhibit GPS Signal from penetrating the windshield and reaching the antenna. You could purchase an external mount antenna which will extend and amplify the signal .

Roadmate 300 GPS

I had the same problem and solved it by plugging the USB cable into the device, powered it up, went into the "Magellan Roadmate Manager", clicked on "Settings" and then clicked on "Voice Options" and my sound came back.

Won't say that it will work for you, but it did for me. Worth a try!
