common cause of this problem is ram overload.remove battery & insert again restart . clear extra applications. if ram is ok check software versin & update it.
Ooh. My 2-year-old Literati did the same thing. Multiple attempts to reset (paperclip in the hole in the back) and to do a hard reset (regular reset + pressing and holding the power button) failed. It wouldn't even turn off; I let the battery run down and recharged through several cycles. No dice. Dead, dead, dead. I suggest that you try the resets, but I fear that your reader is just kaput and will need recycling [MerchSource allegedly will help with that: (800)

Hey julesjer, I have this issue as well. After exhausting my options, customer service is now sending out a package for me to return my Literati for a replacement. I was advised to drain the battery and recharge it fully to see if that makes any difference, which I'm in the process of doing right now. Hope either of these options may help.
I've copied and pasted this answer to other similar problem threads on this site regarding the Literati. The only other option I can think of is holding down the reset button (pinhole in the back) with a paperclip for at least a full minute, as per the recommendation by someone else' problem response on Fixya. Hope this helps in some way!
My Literati doesn't start. I tried to rest it, but nothing happened. I plug it in the power for more than an hour and tried again to reset it, but a gain no sign of life in it. Any suggestions.
This happened to mine too, I called customer service and all they could tell me to do was to leave it alone and let the battery drain completely down so that it shuts off. Then charge it for a full 6 hrs before using it again. It worked for me.
I had the same problem last night! Finally i found the reset button on the back of the device. It is actually a little pin hole and I stuck my earring in there and voila' it came back on. Hope this solves your issue!
Mine was frozen and kept flashing the opening screen. I had to plug it in with the charger and then hold the reset button for a full minute before mine would shut off and start working again. I have a feeling though that I will have to repeat this every time I turn it off to charge it.
