Model 6430 Viking has the reverse button located in the center of the stitch length dial. It is firmly jammed in the reverse position causing the machine to sew ONLY in reverse.
When I pull firmly on the button it will sew forward but goes back to reverse when I let go...It seems to be attached to a spring, inside. Possibly the top knob has not been installed correctly????
I have the same problem but for the husqvarna 2000 SL model. The reverse button appears to be stuck on. Tried the instructions in the manual to no avail.

MOdel 6430 has the stitch length and buttonhole selector on the same knob. It is the one on the bottom right side of the machine. I believe you may have selected the buttonhole by pulling out on the large round knob. You need to turn the knob back to 0 zero and push in. This should return the machine to normal mode.Adjust your stitch length to 3 and try it. The reverse knob in the center should also stick out so that it becomes operational again.

bbragg77 is mostly correct. It is not the camstack. Although they will crack, but that is all together another problem. It is the stitch length/reverse mech. You can manually work it back and forth to free it and I like to use break cleaner to get it free then re lubricate. A good service shop can put you back in business. And yes Viking does not support 6000 series machines any longer.

sounds like it needs servicing and cleaned. Suggest only using authorized husqvarna viking dealer for service. You can find your local dealer at the Husqvarna Viking website http://www.husqvarnaviking.com and selecting "dealers" link.

I have the same problem with a husqvarna 2000.
It is stuck in reverse.
A cam mecanism inside is very "sticky" and will not return to forward even though the spring is still attached.
Any suggestions.
