Broken Handle Handle broke off. Can I replace the handle or door without removing the unit. It is very heavy. Also, where do I get the parts??

You will probably need to strip the door card off to get access to the mechanical parts inside the door. It is a fiddly, pain in the backside job that will skin your knuckles but it's the only way to remove and replace both door release handles and the connectors without resorting to the extreme of replacing the entire door. This is a labour intensive so a mechanic will charge you for a few hours to do this.

There are only 2 places that you have the problem on the inside door handle. one is at the handle,and the little plastic holder that holds the rod to the handle broke, or the plastic clip the the door lock mechanism broke. the first can be removed without taking the door apart. the inside door handle has a screw holding it in place. you can remove the handle and see if its broken. the second requires you to remove the door panel, to replace the clip that hold the rod to the lock. I door handle in the car is a dealer item only(sorry to tell you that), the clip for the lock, you can get at the auto parts store. hope this helps

The door handle on this model has two parts (items 3 and 8). Depending on what is broken, you may only need to order one or the other. Both parts, combined, is still only about $20. The part numbers are WB15X10119 and WB15X10120, respectively.


The door handle is a simple repair that can be done with the door in place, or with the door removed. You do not have to uninstall the oven if this is an over the range model.

use a long screwdriver, approx 8in and skinny. Under the handle you will see the broken part on the right side. remove that part and insert screwdriver striaght up as possible, then point down to push lever inside door. REMEMBER to unlock doors first, after inside panels removed and license plate, you can remove the license plate box and replace handle

FIRST YOU NEED TO REMOVE THE INSIDE PANEL. AFTER DOING THAT, WITH THE WINDOW ROLLED UP REMOVE 2 PLUGS ON THE METAL TO ACCESS THE TWO NUTS THAT HOLD ON THE OUTSIDE HANDLE. Replaced handle/latch unit. Killed power to the unit. Removed the inside door panel then unplugged the two switches on the latch. Removed old latch with broken handle (removing inside panel frees latch/handle). Installed new latch with handle reconnected the two switches, reinstalled inside door panel. Very simple. Note: Latches can be purchased with or without the handle. Less expensive to buy with the handle already installed on the latch.

You should replace the handle with an aluminum version. The best one I have found is sold on eBay for 12 dollars.
Look for the one sold by mike8756.

It is easy to install, does not require removing any panels. Th first one I replaced took me about 1/2 hour. I hae done several since for friends and now takes about 15 minutes.

bogus...use a Torx driver to remove the door screws...careful of the glass. Replace the handle and reassemble. You may want to take digital pictures along the way. Parts available from ge or other online parts guys.
