I have an Amana Refrigerator model #TX20QBW that is dripping water from the top freezer into the Refrigerator. I solved this problem on our basement fridge by defrosting the freezer. On that fridge there is a bottom panel in the freezer that was easily removed so I could access the ice and water build-up. I can not figure out how to do this on the TX20QBW model. Any suggestions for opening it up? Thanks!

SOURCE: Up right Amana Deep Freezer

Try taking a small piece of solid copper wire strand, loop over defrost heater and extend into drain hole, this is a trick we use to help with this issue by bringing a little heat around the hole. The freezer may be manufactured by Woods Inc, a canadian appliance builder. These did have lots of problems with the water building up between the inner and outer liners, Not much you can do with these either to totally resolve this issue. Make sure the water is going into the drain pan when you pour the hot water.

SOURCE: defroster leaks

you have a cloged evap. drain. the rf is defrosting properly but with the drain be clogged the water has to go somewhere which is generally in the crisper draws on top and bottom models. two way to clear up this issue. turn rf OFF for at least 48 to 72 hrs. to allow the drain to de-ice or take matters into your own hands and take the back panel off of the freezer and using boiling hot water pour it down the evap. drain tube until it flows like you just flushed a tiolet

SOURCE: I'm getting ice build up at the top of my Amana upright freeze.

This means the seal at the top is not tight and air is leaking in.

There are 3 possible fixes:
1. Loosen and Rehang the door so that a piece of cash-register receipt paper cannot easily be pulled thru the seal when the door is closed (all the way around) get someone to help. Dont take the door hinge screws out, just loosen them, push the door in to compress seal and tighten them again

2. Replace the seal ($12-30.00) - Take make, model and serial number of the appliance with you to eliminate a return trip.

3/ Treat with Armor All to make gasket seal soft again (2-3x) and give it a wipe all the way around with Vaseline.

Whirlpool refrigerator with top freezer

If there is an ice maker in the freezer, look to see if the water is coming from there. If it is then replace the solenoid valve where the water comes into the back of the refrigerator.

Ice keeps forming on the bottom of the freezer - like a leak on the back side flows into the bottom toward the door.

When a refrigerator leaks water like yours, it is common for the problem to be nothing more than a clogged defrost drain. When the unit defrosts itself, the frost melt water drips into a pan underneath the evaporator in the freezer, and goes through a tube from there to the bottom outside of the unit. Since the water cant go down this drain, it backs up on the freezer floor, then eventually the kitchen floor.

I have water coming from the top of the refrigerator onto food.

sounds like you have a whirlpool/kitchenaid freezer top model. these very often get a clogged defrost drain, that clogs with ice, nothing more. the simple fix is to turn the unit off for 24 hours, open both doors, blow a fan at the freezer, to melt the ice in the defrost drain. The problem however, wont be fixed, the drain will eventually clog up with ice again, until you get a repair service to install a drain heater. But you will have dry lunches for a while, be it weeks, or months?

Leaking ice maker

If it overfills and drips, look for an adjustment behind the plastic endcover with a +/- on it. - is less water.

If it continuously drips, replace the water inlet valve on the back where the house water supply comes in.
The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze diverting the water. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.

Our upright freezer drips water on the floor. We believe the seal is bad since ice also forms inside at the top of the door. Is the seal replaceable or should we buy a new unit?

Self-defrosting refrigerators/freezers dispose of the water generated during the defrost cycle, usually via a tube or channel that directs the water to a pan at the bottom of the refrigerator. From the pan, the water normally evaporates.

If the tube or channel is clogged or obstructed, the water backs up and leaks into the inside of the refrigerator/freezer compartment. Then the water builds up at the bottom, inside of the refrigerator. When the water has built up for a time it may spill out of the front of the door opening. To fix this problem, clear the drain tube or channel and allow the defrost water to flow down to the drain pan.

Frozen water on the bottom of my Amana freezer

Your drain line is clogged. Take a small diameter pice of wire and snake out the drain line from inside the freezer.
You may have to access the back rear near the compressor and separate the drain line there and clean it further.
