I have an issue on my meade ET90 AT. I have a motor failure message after the telescope try to find a star. Now when I turn on I received a message from the autostar to press 0 or mode in both case it start the test motor and appear the message Motor fault. I change the batteries but it doesn't change the result. When I turn on and I received the message "0 or press mode" if I try to push the arrows button the telescope move right and left but no up and down. I called the meade customer service and after 30 seconds they told me to bring the telescope to their repair center. Thanks

Try this.

1. Do a RESET on the hand controller.

2. Reenter your Site, Date, and Time.

3. Calibrate Motors

Now see if that fixed it. If not it will need to be returned to Meade because a gear or circuit is broken inside the scope.

If this does not work or you cannot RESET the controller then either the DEC motor is fried, or the circuit board controlling the motor has a burned out component. Only Meade can repair this-- or you can disassemble the DEC fork arm and look inside and see what is wrong.

If a gear is broken-- only Meade will have the gear. You will most likely send it back to Meade and let them fix what is broken.

I have a Meade ETX-70. When turned on, the handset says there is a Motor Unit Fault: Motor failure detected due to moving handset between scopes, low battery level, obstructed or overloaded scope. I've...

This is usually caused by low battery power-- as the hand controller reported. DO NOT USE rechargeable batteries they do not have enough volts. Use alkaline batteries only.

This can also be caused by a broken gear or a failed internal motor. You can return these to Meade for repair.

Im getting a sensor failure message after the scope tries a level procedure, I tried leveling the scope by eye. but it does the same thing.

Contact Meade for repairs- they will probably want you to send the scope back.

Display shows when you turn on switch that system detects motor failure

Put new batteries in it--- and do a RESET on the hand controller. Then do a Calibrate Motors--- and then re-train the drives.

You will also need to enter Time, Date, and Daylight Savings Time = NO right now.

After this take it outside and level the tripod, and do a two star alignment.

Your problem may not be the motor?

Is this a 497 hand controller? If it is check the TELESCOPE TYPE in the controller. It should read ETX125. You cannot just switch controllers. The controller has been TRAINED for the other scope.

To switch it you must do a RESET, Calibrate motors and then train the drives. These "values" are stored inside the hand controller. If you move it to another type of Meade telescope you must RESET and do Calibrate sensors and Training again.

Runaway DECLINATION is what this is called. Usually it can be fixed with a new hand controller cable. If a new cable does not fix it, then it has a blown motor circuit board and must be returned to Meade for repairs.

Meade/auto star problem

You never said what model. The CD ROM only contains free planetarium software which you can also down load on Meade's web site here:

www.meade.com look under the Customer Service link.

Motor Faults are usually caused by low power and or a broken part.

If you have CALIBRATE MOTORS feature in the hand controller do this first. If it still does not work, RESET the hand controller, reenter date, time, and SITE, and calibrate motors again.

If this does not work something is broken inside the scope.

Motor unit fault DS 2000

Continual motor faults simple mean something is broken inside the telescope--- motors, or gears--- something is preventing the motor from turning the telescope.

Time to either take it back and get a replacement... or send it in for repairs.

Fist time alignment issues.

Did you calibrate the motors and TRAIN the drives? If not do these first--

During alignment the "alignment" stars may or may NOT be visible in the eyepiece-- CENTER the star. Once you do this with two stars your gotos should be good.
