How to Reset an HP Inkjet Cartridge
Hi there
Instructions Things You'll Need: Adhesive tape HP inkjet cartridge can be refilled easily, getting it to work again in the printer is another matter. The contacts on the back of the cartridge are programmed to read the ink level, but they don't reset for the printer just because you add more ink. You must get the printer to recognize the cartridge as new. You can do this easily if you have two other old cartridges, or you can manipulate the contacts on the refilled cartridge. Step 1 Insert the cartridge you refilled into the HP Printer. Have the printer print an alignment page, thus recognizing the cartridge. The printer will still read the ink level as where it was before you refilled it. Step 2 Remove the cartridge from the printer and replace it with another old cartridge. Have the printer print an alignment page with this cartridge so it recognizes it as a different cartridge from the first one. Step 3 Replace the second cartridge with a third one and run the same alignment page. Because the printer only retains the memory of two
Print Cartridges, it will erase the memory of the first (refilled) cartridge. Step 4 Insert the refilled cartridge into the printer. The printer will now recognize the cartridge as being full. Next Steps Step 1 Tape over the contact squares on the top left corner of the cartridge's contacts. Insert the cartridge into the printer and run an alignment page. Ignore any messages that might appear saying there is a problem with the cartridge. Step 2 Take the cartridge out of the printer. Remove the tape from the left corner and tape over the contact squares on the top right corner. Place the cartridge backs in and run another alignment page. Step 3 Remove and reinsert the cartridge, this time with no tape on any of the contacts. Check to see if the printer recognizes the cartridge as being full. Step 4 Repeat the above steps if the cartridge is still shown as being empty. This time, use the bottom corner contact squares instead of the top ones. If you are still unable to reset the cartridges, using multiple cartridges is likely the only way to do it.

Remove the print cartridge and press the head of cartridge on the tissue paper firmly.if the cartridge is okay it should shows three colors on the tissue.that are cyan(blue), yellow and magenta(pink).if you see any color missing that means the particular color is empty or dried up.get the cartridge refilled or replaced if necessary.
This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya
Maybe you should buy a new cartridge. This warning message usually means that one of the contacts on your cartridge has blown and when you put it in, the printer does not recognize it anymore. If that is the case, sadly, the only solution is to buy a new cartridge.
Hi there For troubleshooting purposes, Perform the following:
1. Open the printer and remove all ink tanks.
2. Insert a single ink tank in the printer then close the cover.
3. Confirm whether the printer recognizes the installed tank properly. If it does, it will indicate it does not detect the other ink tanks, as they are not currently installed in the printer.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 with another ink tank.
5. If the printer at any time indicates two of the same ink tanks are installed, the cause will be the last tank installed. For example, if you inserted an ink tank earlier, and you later inserted another ink tank, and it said two of the same inks were installed, the cause of the issue is the last ink tank.

I discovered on mine, exact same problem, I opened the tray, removed the cartridge, and forced it back in hard and fast. It didn't work the first 12 times but after that, it got a solid connection and it worked. Works fine now. Anyway that's the problem and the problem isn't the cartridge (genuine hp cart here). The problem is on the printer side, the pins that hit the cartridge. Anyway get rough with it, slam it in and out, close the tray, if it doesn't work within 5 seconds, open the tray and do it again. It WILL work.
try cleaning the contacts opd the color cartridge with a wet towel
if the problem is not solve return the cartridge in the shop you get it and ask them to replace it
Hi,
I really appericate all your efforts to fix the issue the issue usually occures if any one of the cartridge is defective or low in ink or both the cartridge are defective.
We can isolate the issue only by removing the both the cartridges out of the printer and check for the expiry dates printed on the cartridges as if the cartridges are expired also leads to this message.
If the cartridge are not expired and have minumial ink in it you can try the below procedure to isolate the defective cartridge
Once the both the cartridges are out of the printer insert only the black cartridge in the printer and check for the message if the message is install color cartridge the black cartridge and printer is detecting fine.
If the message is check right cartridge this shows that the black cartridge is defective.
If the message is insert left cartridge or color cartridge remove the black cartridge out and insert only the color cartridge and check with the message if the message is insert the black cartridge the color cartridge is working fine.
And when the color cartridge is in the printer and if the message prompts to check left or color cartridge the color cartridge seems to be defective so replace the defective one will fix the issue
So in isolation we can find the defective cartridge and fix the issue by replacing the defective one..
Hope this will help you to fix the issue..
Wish you success.
Regards,
Barret.
Do check the option and make sure that you have not inadvertently set it to black only- This could be computer wise or on the A940 panel.
If you are sure all is well here
Remove the scanner software and reinstall.
